The invention relates to a mobile network subscriber (10) for use in a cabled network (1), particularly in a collector wire network of an electric telpher, wherein the cabled network (1) has at least one first segment (S1) and at least one second segment (S2) and wherein the mobile network subscriber (10) has a first slave modem (SM1), a second slave modem (SM2), a first contact arrangement (K1) and a second contact arrangement (K2) in each case. In order to allow a change between two segments of a network in a simple and efficient manner, it is proposed that the slave modems (SM1, SM2) be provided for communication with at least one first master modem (MM1) and/or at least one second master modem (M2) via the contact arrangements (K1, K2) and the segments (S1, S2), wherein the mobile network subscriber (10) is provided for movement along the segments (S1, S2), the contact arrangements (K1, K2) of the mobile network subscriber (10) being arranged such that the change from the first segment (S1) to the second segment (S2) involves at least one of the contact arrangements (K1, K2) being connected to the first segment (S1) and at least one further contact arrangement (K1, K2) being connected to the second segment (S2).

Solar lighting with pay-as-you go technology

Disclosed are systems, devices and methods for providing solar lighting and power to a customer by using pay-as-you-go (PAYG) technology. The PAYG technology allows a customer to make incremental payments for a solar energy system that includes a lighting unit. The payments can be made through a smartphone. A cable is used to connect an audio jack of the smartphone and a PV power jack of the lighting unit. Analog AC signals including data about activation, payment, usage and status are transmitted over the cable between the service provider and lighting unit, through a smartphone. The power jack of the lighting unit is also used to connect to a solar panel of a charging unit and a battery of the lighting unit.

TRACTOR-TRAILER COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A communication system, includes a trailer bridge disposed on a cargo trailer, the trailer bridge comprising a power line transceiver for communicating with a tractor module when the trailer and a tractor having the tractor module are electrically connected; and a locator module for communicating with the trailer bridge, the locator module comprising a mobile or cellular transceiver for communicating with a mobile or cellular communications network external to the trailer. The locator module is to communicate making of the electrical connection between the trailer and tractor to a remote datacenter of an owner/operator of the trailer in response to a signal from the trailer bridge indicating that the electrical connection has been made.

Monitoring the quality of a communication channel supported by a sliding contact

A method for monitoring the quality of a communication channel supported by a sliding contact is provided. The method includes controlling application of a continuous electrical signal onto one of elements of the sliding contact, receiving measured values of electrical signals measured on other of the elements of the sliding contact, estimating from the measured values, a variance parameter value, comparing the variance parameter value with a threshold and, on the basis of a result of the comparison, generating a signal representative of a quality of the communication channel.
