Multi-portion radio transmissions
Techniques are disclosed relating to generating and receiving radio frames with multiple portions that have different target geographic areas. A data frame may include a first partition that includes a physical layer encoding of first data to be transmitted in a first geographic area, where the first geographic area is defined by a first threshold distance from the one or more transmitters. The data frame may include a second that includes a physical layer encoding of second data to be transmitted in a second geographic area, where the second geographic area is defined by a second, greater threshold distance from the one or more transmitters.
Broadcast signal transmitting apparatus and broadcast signal transmitting method
Provided is a method for transmitting a broadcast signal. The method for transmitting a broadcast signal, according to the present invention, can be a broadcast content transmitting method, comprising the steps of: generating, by a first module, a first media stream for broadcast content wherein the first media stream includes a plurality of packets, and at least one of the packets includes time information; generating, by a second module, a second media stream for the broadcast content; transmitting, by a third module, the first media stream through a broadcast network; receiving, by a fourth module, a request for the second media stream from a receiver; and transmitting, by the fourth module, the second media stream to the receiver through the Internet network.

RESOURCE ALLOCATION IN COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS USING PROBABILITY FORECASTS
A system (1000) is disclosed including a resource allocation optimization (RAO) platform (1002) for optimizing the allocation of resources in network (1004) for delivery of assets to user equipment devices (UEDs) (1012). The RAO platform (1002) determines probabilities that certain asset delivery opportunities (ADOs) will occur within a selected time window and uses these probabilities together with information concerning values of asset delivery to determine an optimal use of asset deliveries. In this regard, the RAO platform (1004) received historical data from repository (1014) that facilitates calculation of probabilities that ADOs will occur. Such information may be compiled based on asset delivery records for similar network environments in the recent past or over time.

SMART ADJACENT-CHANNEL INDICATING/SCANNING FOR FM MODULATION
As may be used in connection with frequency-modulated (FM) radio systems and receivers processing FM broadcast transmissions, exemplary aspects are directed to a method may be performed by the receiver circuitry to receive FM broadcast signaling within a particular bandwidth for which a plurality of target channels are to have a specified channel spacing. The method may include: assessing detected energy for a first adjacent channel having the specified channel spacing and having a frequency immediately adjacent to a targeted one of the plurality of target channels; and discerning whether the detected energy is associated with ultra-sonic energy in detected modulation energy (e.g., ultra-sonic noise in an MPX signal), and/or is associated with modulation energy (e.g., due to over-modulation) from a second adjacent channel also having such specified channel spacing.
Signaling methods and apparatus
A reception apparatus including a tuner and circuitry is provided. The tuner is configured to receive a transmission frame including a bootstrap portion, a preamble portion, and a payload portion. The circuitry is configured to extract first signaling information from the bootstrap portion to decode the preamble portion, and extract second signaling information from the preamble portion to decode the payload portion. The bootstrap portion includes at least one of a first symbol used for synchronization, a second symbol that signals emergency alert information, or a third symbol that signals the first signaling information.
Layered modulation for machine type communication (MTC) transmissions
A base station broadcasts information to machine type communication (MTC) devices in the coverage area of the base station using multiple transmissions with layered modulation. Each transmission includes a different sequence of bits representing the information. A MTC device receiving the signals for the transmissions at a sufficiently high quality can recover the information by using a high modulation order on one of the transmissions. A MTC device receiving the signals of the transmissions at less than the sufficient quality can receive the information by applying a lower modulation order to multiple transmissions.
Method And System For Controlling The Use Of Dormant Capacity For Distributing Data
A method and system for controlling the use of dormant capacity for distributing data includes communicating data as part of a regular traffic load through a network having an overall network capacity, determining a dormant capacity of the network based on regular network traffic load, delivering content to a plurality of devices through the network, receiving the data at the plurality of devices, based on receiving the data, measuring an efficiency metric at each of the plurality of devices, communicating the efficiency metric of the devices to a service provider, receiving the efficiency metric at the service provider from the devices, receiving a resource usage report from the network, determining a target throughput for each of the plurality of devices based on the resource usage report and communicating second data to the plurality of devices from a content delivery service based on the target throughput using the dormant capacity.
