Ancillary information associated with one or more images embedded in a digital broadcast data stream may be accessed by a digital broadcast receiving device. The device may include a receiver unit, a processor, and a memory. The processor may execute program instructions to access the ancillary information. Control data may be associated with one or more visual components of one or more video images. The control data and images may be combined into a digital broadcast data stream. The device may receive the images and control data. The images may be presented on a display device. The receiving device may use the control data to present or store a perceptible indication that ancillary information is associated with the visual components in conjunction with presenting the images. The device may use the control data to present or store the ancillary information in response to an input signal.
Display device
A display device comprises a display component, an output component, a setting component, and a controller. The output component outputs a first signal having guidance information and a second signal having audio information pertaining to content. The setting component performs volume setting. The controller controls output levels of the first signal and the second signal. The controller sets the output level of the first signal to a value that is greater than or equal to the output level of the second signal, and sets the output level of the first signal to a value greater than zero when the output level of the second signal is zero.
Display device
A display device comprises a display component, an output component, a setting component, and a controller. The output component outputs a first signal having guidance information and a second signal having audio information pertaining to content. The setting component performs volume setting. The controller controls output levels of the first signal and the second signal. The controller sets the output level of the first signal to a value that is greater than or equal to the output level of the second signal, and sets the output level of the first signal to a value greater than zero when the output level of the second signal is zero.

A reception device comprising: at least one receiver and a corresponding delay buffer configured to receive portions of data for at least one data stream; wherein based on a request to switch from decoding delayed data portions retrieved from a host device from a first time point to decoding delayed data portions from a different, second time point, the request received while the controller is configured to receive the delayed data portion from said first time point for decoding; the controller is configured to; (a) identify one or more second-time-point delayed data portions to request from the host device; (b) request the one or more identified second-time-point delayed data portions; and (c) while one or both of requesting and receiving the one or more second-time-point delayed data portions, requesting one or more delayed data portions corresponding to the first time.

A reception device comprising: at least one receiver and a corresponding delay buffer configured to receive portions of data for at least one data stream; wherein based on a request to switch from decoding delayed data portions retrieved from a host device from a first time point to decoding delayed data portions from a different, second time point, the request received while the controller is configured to receive the delayed data portion from said first time point for decoding; the controller is configured to; (a) identify one or more second-time-point delayed data portions to request from the host device; (b) request the one or more identified second-time-point delayed data portions; and (c) while one or both of requesting and receiving the one or more second-time-point delayed data portions, requesting one or more delayed data portions corresponding to the first time.
