Identifying Electronic Devices in a Room Using a Spread Code

Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for identifying electronic devices in a room using a spread code. In some embodiments, a first electronic device receives a spread spectrum signal from a second electronic device over an audio data channel. The first electronic device determines a time of receipt of the spread spectrum signal based on despreading. The first electronic device calculates a distance between the first electronic device and the second electronic device based on the time of receipt and a time of transmission. The first electronic device determines the second electronic device is not in the room with the first electronic device based on the calculated distance.

The processor may be configured to receive the synchronization signal, perform first descrambling the received synchronization signal for a first sequence from among the plurality of sequences by multiplying the received synchronization signal by the first sequence, and perform second descrambling the received synchronization signal for a second sequence, which is a complex conjugate of the first sequence, from among the plurality of sequences of the received synchronization signal by changing a sign of at least one element of a descrambled sequence of the first sequence.

Branched communications network

A spread spectrum system is used for transmitting data to and from devices operable as sensors and actuators in a distributed system. Communication is made through a series of aggregation nodes in a branched hierarchical network. Each device and aggregation node has a respective spread spectrum code, and has a corresponding encoder/decoder in a central control system operating the same spread spectrum codes, the encoded data relating to the devices being aggregated over a shared channel. At each level in the hierarchy the aggregated signals to/from the next level are recoded. This allows the same codes to be re-used at different levels, and in different sub-branches in the same level, increasing the number of devices that can be served on one channel.

A User Equipment and method for transmitting a random-access radio frequency (RF) signal by applying Asynchronous Coded Multiple Access (ACMA) in a communication system employing Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is described. The method including: encoding an information stream as OFDM symbols using a low rate Forward Error Correction (FEC) coding suitable for Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) to form a payload; generating a burst, including symbols, by performing an inverse fast Fourier transform on a unique word (UW) multiplexed with the payload; and synchronizing a transmission of each of the symbols of the burst with consecutive symbol-start instants. The UW includes a plurality of Zadoff-Chu (ZC) like sequences disposed in a subset of consecutive symbol-start instants of the burst. A receiver detects burst arrival by searching for consecutive ZC-like sequences. Channel state estimation can be performed by using the UW with additional ZC-like sequences in the burst.

Identifying Audio Characteristics of a Room Using a Spread Code

Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for identifying audio characteristics of a room using a spread code. In some embodiments, an audio responsive receives a spread spectrum signal from a smart speaker over an audio data channel. The audio responsive remote control determines a time of receipt of the spread spectrum signal based on despreading. The audio responsive remote control calculates an airtime delay associated with the smart speaker based on the time of receipt and a time of transmission. The audio responsive remote control then adjusts playback of audiovisual content at the smart speaker and a second smart speaker for a location based on the airtime delay. The audio responsive remote control can also determine whether the smart speaker is present in the room with it based on the airtime delay.
