Industrial control device and method for insertion and removal of a module under power without interruption

Disclosed is an industrial control device including a point-to-point backplane/point module architecture providing RIUP (Removal and Insertion Under Power) functionality where data communications between modules is maintained after the removal of a point module from the backplane. According to an exemplary embodiment, a backplane includes a plurality of bypass switches controlled by respective point modules, whereby data communicated bypass a removed point module interface and point-to-point data communications are provided to an inserted point module after an initial routine is executed by a microcontroller associated with the inserted point module.

System and method for application of virtual host channel adapter configuration policies in a high-performance computing environment

Systems and methods for application of virtual host channel adapter configuration policies. An exemplary embodiment can provide a host channel adapter (HCA) with a control circuit and a memory, and at least one port operative to connect the HCA to a network fabric. A software driver of the HCA can provide a control API that exposes functionality to hyper-privileged software executing on the host. The hyper privileged software, through the control API, can request registration of a virtual HCA (vHCA) with a virtual function of the HCA. The HCA can forward the registration request to a subnet manger, which can retrieve configuration policies from a cache and return the policies to the HCA for implementation with the virtual function of the HCA.

Fast interlayer forwarding

A method, implemented in a packet switch system, for fast interlayer forwarding includes constructing a master Forwarding Information Base (FIB) which associates each of a plurality of packet source addresses with a corresponding member port among a plurality of member ports interconnected by a fabric; and distributing the master FIB to the member ports interconnected by the fabric and to at least one alternate logical port that is not connected to the fabric, wherein the at least one alternate logical port is configured to protect one of the member ports interconnected by the fabric.

Efficient convergence in network events

One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch. The switch includes a storage device, one or more line cards, and a control card. A respective line card includes one or more ports and forwarding hardware. The control card determines routing and forwarding tables for the switch, and comprises processing circuitry and a management module. The management module manage a tunnel or virtual network at the switch. During operation, the control card determine an event associated with layer-2 operations of the switch. The control card refrains from notifying the management module regarding the event and notifies a first line card in the one or more line cards regarding the event. The first line card then updates a layer-3 forwarding entry in the corresponding forwarding hardware based on the notification.

Systems, methods, and machine-readable storage media to facilitate adaptive switch stack interaction are disclosed. Discovery may be performed via a network with respect to switches, each switch corresponding to a switch stack and including ports communicatively coupled to endpoint devices or access points. Switch data transmitted from the plurality of switches may be processed and used to develop models of the switches. Each model may include switch specifications, and a particular model may be used to emulate a particular switch. Emulation data may be created to facilitate a graphical representation formatted to represent the particular switch. The emulation data may be transmitted to an endpoint device to facilitate an emulation interface that may correspond to a graphical layout of the particular switch that allows access, via user-selectable interface elements, to a subset of the switch data that is mapped to the particular switch.

Runtime schema for services in a switch

One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch. During operation, the switch parses a first schema of the switch. The first schema indicates initialization information for one or more services of the switch expressed based on one or more tags. The switch then identifies a tag of the one or more tags in the first schema based on the parsing and identifies information corresponding to the tag from a profile of the switch. Subsequently, the switch generates a second schema from the first schema based on the identified information.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IMPROVING RESPONSIVENESS IN EXCHANGING FRAMES IN A WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORK

A method and system for improving responsiveness in exchanging management and control frames in a wireless local area network are disclosed. An initiator sends a frame (action frame, management frame, CSI frame, control frame, or data frame) to a responder. Upon correctly receiving the frame, the responder sends a response frame to the initiator instead of directly sending an acknowledgement (ACK) packet. The responder preferably accesses the wireless medium to send the response frame in a short inter-frame spacing (SIFS). With this scheme, a long delay associated with having to contend for the wireless medium to send the response frame is avoided and therefore, the responsiveness and timeliness of the feedback mechanism is significantly enhanced. The response frame may be piggybacked on or aggregated with another packet.
