HOSTNAME BASED MANAGEMENT OF FEATURES OF A NETWORK DEVICE

A client device uses a hostname-based feature mapping table. A randomized MAC address and a hostname of the client device is obtained from the memory of the client device. A user interface receives a selection. to indicate the hostname is to be changed to a new hostname. The client device is associated with a network access device when the new hostname is determined to be unique. A list of features and associated rules are displayed in the user interface for associating with the new hostname. Features and associated rules are selected from the list to link to the new hostname. A feature mapping table is presented in the user interface to show the features and associated rules linked to the new hostname.

Selecting interfaces for device-group identifiers

In one embodiment, a computer networking device calculates a first hash value for an identifier of a group of computing devices, as well as a second hash value for the identifier of the group of computing devices, with each hash value being at least in part on the identifier of the group of computing devices and an identifier of the respective interface. The computer networking device may also analyze the first hash value with respect to the second hash value and select the first interface for association with the identifier of the group of computing devices based at in part on the analyzing. The computer networking device may further store an indication that the identifier of the group of computing devices is associated with the first interface.

Conversation-based policy distribution

This disclosure describes techniques for improving policy distribution in a network. The policy distribution may be improved based on a conversation between devices of the network. The techniques include initiating a policy download trigger based on the conversation. The policy download trigger may specify a particular destination device for a data transfer across the network. Therefore, policies specific to the destination device may be downloaded and/or installed at points of enforcement in the network. In this way, the techniques described herein may improve the efficiency of network resource use.

Providing communication services using sets of I/O user devices

A user terminal emulation server maintains a database identifying network addresses, UI capabilities, and communication protocols of I/O user devices. Communication sessions are established between a user terminal emulation application and a network entity and I/O user devices proximately located to a user and provide a combined I/O user interface. Delay profiles are determined between the application and the I/O user devices. A downlink flow from the network entity is split into a plurality of downlink flow components assigned to the I/O user devices. For each of the downlink flow components, the server formats the component for transmission to the assigned I/O user device, initiates transmission of the formatted downlink flow component to the assigned I/O user device, and controls timing for when the formatted downlink flow component is transmitted to the assigned I/O user device based on the delay profile associated with the assigned I/O user device.

NVMe-over-fabrics gateway system

An NVMeoF gateway system includes a physical host device that communicates using a host NVMeoF protocol, and a physical target device that communicates using a target NVMeoF protocol. A networking device generates proxy host and target devices that are included in the same zone for the physical host and target devices, respectively. The networking device then converts first host NVMeoF protocol communications from the physical host device to first target NVMeoF protocol communications and provides them to the physical target device using the proxy host device, and converts second target NVMeoF protocol communications from the physical target device to second host NVMeoF protocol communications and provides them to the physical host device using the proxy target device. The first target NVMeoF protocol communications and the second host NVMeoF protocol communications configure the physical host device to exchange data with the physical target device.

Dynamically updating distributed content objects

A document object may be transmitted to a plurality of user devices. The document object may include at least one field for display of a content object of a group of content objects. The field may be associated with an identifier corresponding to the group of content objects. When the document object is accessed, then the access may trigger a request to a server, which may select a content object of the group of content objects using a content object identification function. The content object identification function may be dynamically updated based at least in part on the document object being accessed by one or more of the plurality of user devices. Responsive to the request, a unique content object identifier corresponding to the selected content object may be transmitted to the user device and displayed at the accessed document object.

System and method for providing network support services and premises gateway support infrastructure

A service management system communicates via wide area network with gateway devices located at respective user premises. The service management system remotely manages delivery of application services, which can be voice controlled, by a gateway, e.g. by selectively activating/deactivating service logic modules in the gateway. The service management system also may selectively provide secure communications and exchange of information among gateway devices and among associated endpoint devices. An exemplary service management system includes a router connected to the network and one or more computer platforms, for implementing management functions. Examples of the functions include a connection manager for controlling system communications with the gateway devices, an authentication manager for authenticating each gateway device and controlling the connection manager and a subscription manager for managing applications services and/or features offered by the gateway devices. A service manager, controlled by the subscription manager, distributes service specific configuration data to authenticated gateway devices.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ESTABLISHING A DISTRIBUTED NETWORK WITHOUT A CENTRALIZED DIRECTORY

A method for establishing a connection between two nodes in a communication network without use of a centralized directory or mapping identifiers includes: receiving a lookup message from another node in the communication network that includes a lookup term; determining if a target node in a local directory cache can be identified that satisfies the lookup term; and, if such a node is identified, establishing a connection to the target node and forwarding the lookup message, or, if no such node is identified, forwarding the lookup message to other nodes in the network with which the node has an active communication connection.
