Automatic preset setup for media content playback
A system is provided for streaming media content in a vehicle. The system includes a personal media streaming appliance system configured to connect to a media delivery system and receive media content from the media delivery system at least via a cellular network. The personal media streaming appliance system includes one or more preset buttons for playing media content associated with the preset buttons. The media contents associated with the preset buttons are automatically determined to be personalized to the user of the system.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING ELASTIC MEDIA FORKING INFRASTRUCTURE TO CLOUD DISTRIBUTED REAL-TIME APPLICATIONS
A computerized-method for providing an elastic media forking infrastructure to cloud distributed real-time applications, is provided herein. In a network having a direct media streaming between a first media-client and a source device, in a direct media streaming mode, upon receiving a request from a second media-client, via a signaling protocol, to receive media from the source device, switching from the direct media streaming mode to a media forking mode by starting a media forking service on a media forking infrastructure. Upon receiving a request from the second media-client to terminate media reception from the source device, switching from media forking mode to direct streaming mode, by ending the media forking service, and operating the direct media streaming between the first media-client and the source device.

MULTIMEDIA CONTENT DELIVERY WITH REDUCED DELAY
A content delivery server is configured to: receive a request for a chunk of a segment of a video stream, the segment of the video stream including a series of chunks, each of the chunks including a set of video frames, a first of the chunks being aligned with a first Instantaneous Decoder Refresh frame in the video stream, and a second of the chunks being aligned with a second subsequent Instantaneous Decoder Refresh frame in the video stream; determine whether the request was received during a first interval or a second subsequent interval of an intra period between the first of the chunks and the second of the chunks; output the first of the chunks or the second of the chunks for transmission based on the determination of whether the request was received during the first interval or the second interval.

DEVICE DISCOVERY FOR SOCIAL PLAYBACK
A system for device discovery for social playback is disclosed. The system operates to connect a host media playback device to a media output device and broadcast a social playback session to guest media playback devices. Upon joining a social playback session, a guest media playback device may control the media playback at the host media playback device. Where the media output for the social playback session is provided by the media output device.
ADAPTIVE STREAMING WITH EARLY CLIENT INDICATION
Methods and systems for early identification of bitrates for segments in adaptive bitrate streaming can allow the server to begin processing or transcoding content as necessary for delivery, reducing processing and transmission latency. In a first aspect, a client may request a second segment before the first segment has been completely received. The server may begin any transcoding processes for preparing the second segment, and once the server has completed sending the first segment, the server may begin transmitting the now-prepared or partially prepared second segment. The server can then transmit the first and second segment contiguously, with essentially no network dead time. In a second aspect, the client may transmit an early notification of parameters for the request of the second segment, allowing the server to begin transcoding. The client may subsequently request the already-prepared or partially prepared second segment, similarly reducing request-response processing latency.

Method and apparatus for streaming media content to client devices
A method includes providing a variant playlist file that identifies a plurality of variant streams each corresponding to a different encoding of a same media presentation; tracking a first set of media segments encoded at a first bitrate that correspond to a first playlist file for a first variant stream associated with the variant playlist file; responsive to a second encoded bitrate associated with a second set of media segments that correspond to a second variant stream being higher than the first encoded bitrate: determining a number of media segments to include in a plurality of media segments from the second set of media segments that correspond to the first set of media segments; and providing, to the client device, a second playlist file that identifies a plurality of media segments from the second set of media segments that correspond to respective ones of the first set of media segments.
