In-call feedback to far end device of near end device constraints
A near end device is in a call (voice or video) over a communication link with a far end device. The near end device monitors constraints of the near end device, such as environmental noise at the near end device, latency between sequential data packets, signal strength or quality over the communication link, and energy level. The near end device detects when the near end device is having or is soon to have communication difficulty with the call due to one or more of the constraints. In response to detecting that the near end device is having or is soon to have communication difficulty with the call, the near end device communicates one or both of audible feedback and visual feedback to the far end device, notifying the far end device that the near end device is having or is soon to have communication difficulty with the call.
Systems and methods to automatically perform actions based on media content
Systems and methods are provided for automatically responding to network connectivity issues in a media stream. One example method includes transmitting, from a first computing device, a media stream to one or more secondary computing devices. A network connectivity issue between the first computing device and one or more of the secondary computing devices is detected. If a network connectivity issue is detected, a notification is transmitted to one or more of the secondary computing devices.
Segment quality-guided adaptive stream creation
Embodiments provide for improved stream generation. A target average bitrate (TAB) segment is generated by encoding a first segment, of a plurality of segments in a video, using a first maximum average bitrate (MAB) of a plurality of MABs specified in an encoding ladder. An intermediate average bitrate (IAB) segment is generated by encoding the first segment using a first intermediate bitrate, wherein the first intermediate bitrate is lower than the first MAB. Upon receiving a request for the first segment at the first MAB, the IAB segment is output based at least in part on determining that a first quality score of the IAB segment is within a predefined tolerance of a second quality score of the TAB segment.

Method for determining a play duration estimate of an adaptive bit rate media presentation
There is described a method for determining a play duration estimate of an adaptive bit rate (ABR) media presentation. The method comprises receiving at a network entity a media playlist manifest file of the media presentation, wherein the manifest file is transmitted from a content server to a client and comprises a plurality of entries, each entry linking to a respective different one of a plurality of media segments of the media presentation. The method further comprises determining a data size of the manifest file; and determining a play duration estimate of the media presentation based on the determined data size of the manifest file, a first value that represents a data size of each of the plurality of entries in the manifest file and a second value that represents a play duration of each media segment of the plurality of media segments of the media presentation.
VIDEO CONFERENCE BRIDGE SETTING SHARING, PUSHING, AND RATIONALIZATION
A conference system is provided with enhanced settings capabilities. A controller can poll for settings at each endpoint in a conference system and be able via the video stream to selectively display and compare settings among the endpoints. One location can push its settings to one or more locations to overcome failures or degradation in the conference. The settings between different controllers may be rationalized via a common denominator method or tabular method to build a knowledge of how to configure conferences and to automate responses to problems.
Just-in-Time Distributed Video Cache
A video optimizer receives a request to optimize a source file and stream the optimized file. The request may be accompanied by a key uniquely identifying the original source file to be optimized and an optimized version of the source file to stream to the client. The key uniquely identifies the source video file as it exists on an origin server to prevent transmission of modified source video and the optimized version of the source file by optimization parameters to ensure compatibility with the user device. The video optimizer queries a cache database in response to the received request, which contains references keys and locations of optimized source files among local caches in a cluster of video optimizers. The cache database responds indicates whether a matching optimized version of the source file exists in a local cache of a given video optimizer in the cluster.
Transmission Resource Distribution for Streaming of Variable Bitrate Encoded Media Data
A technique for distributing transmission resources in a media data streaming system is disclosed. A user terminal of the media data streaming system comprises an interface configured to receive a stream of variable bitrate encoded media data via a communications network. The user terminal further comprises a memory storing program code and at least one processing device configured to execute the program code. The program code causes the processing device to determine bitrate variation information for the media data stream and to trigger transmission of the bitrate variation information towards a network component. The network component is configured to trigger dynamic distribution of the transmission resources of the communications network among multiple user terminals dependent on the bitrate variation information.
ABR VIDEO WHITE SPOT COVERAGE SYSTEM AND METHOD
A scheme for managing ABR streaming of content in a wireless radio network environment that may have radio white spot areas. Upon determining that the wireless UE device executing an ABR client application is in a radio white spot area, the current ABR streaming session may be suspended at a particular segment. Thereafter, playback of other content locally cached at the wireless UE device may be commenced in lieu of the ABR media segments. When the wireless UE device exits the radio white spot area, the ABR streaming session may be resumed from a point adjacent to the particular segment where the ABR streaming session was suspended.
POST-CONFERENCE PLAYBACK SYSTEM HAVING HIGHER PERCEIVED QUALITY THAN ORIGINALLY HEARD IN THE CONFERENCE
Some aspects of the present disclosure involve the recording, processing and playback of audio data corresponding to conferences, such as teleconferences. In some teleconference implementations, the audio experience heard when a recording of the conference is played back may be substantially different from the audio experience of an individual conference participant during the original teleconference. In some implementations, the recorded audio data may include at least some audio data that was not available during the teleconference. In some examples, the spatial characteristics of the played-back audio data may be different from that of the audio heard by participants of the teleconference.
