Format-preserving cryptographic systems

Format-preserving encryption and decryption processes are provided. The encryption and decryption processes may use a block cipher. A string that is to be encrypted or decrypted may be converted to a unique binary value. The block cipher may operate on the binary value. If the output of the block cipher that is produced is not representative of a string that is in the same format as the original string, the block cipher may be applied again. The block cipher may be repeatedly applied in this way during format-preserving encryption operations and during format-preserving decryption operations until a format-compliant output is produced. Selective access may be provided to portions of a string that have been encrypted using format-preserving encryption.

Elliptic Curve Random Number Generation

An elliptic curve random number generator avoids escrow keys by choosing a point Q on the elliptic curve as verifiably random. An arbitrary string is chosen and a hash of that string computed. The hash is then converted to a field element of the desired field, the field element regarded as the x-coordinate of a point Q on the elliptic curve and the x-coordinate is tested for validity on the desired elliptic curve. If valid, the x-coordinate is decompressed to the point Q, wherein the choice of which is the two points is also derived from the hash value. Intentional use of escrow keys can provide for back up functionality. The relationship between P and Q is used as an escrow key and stored by for a security domain. The administrator logs the output of the generator to reconstruct the random number with the escrow key.

A method is provided for managing key rotation (use of series of keys) and secure key distribution in over-the-top content delivery. The method provided supports supplying a first content encryption key to a content packaging engine for encryption of a first portion of a video stream. Once the first content encryption key has expired, a second content encryption key is provided to the content packaging engine for encryption of a second portion of a video stream. The method further provides for notification of client devices of imminent key changes, as well as support for secure retrieval of new keys by client devices. A system is also specified for implementing a client and server infrastructure in accordance with the provisions of the method.

Hardware security accelerator

A hardware security accelerator includes a configurable parser that is configured to receive a packet and to extract from the packet headers associated with a set of protocols. The security accelerator also includes a packet type detection unit to determine a type of the packet in response to the set of protocols and to generate a packet type identifier indicative of the type of the packet. A configurable security unit includes a configuration unit and a configurable security engine. The configuration unit configures the configurable security engine according to the type of the packet and to content of at least one of the headers extracted from the packet. The configurable security engine performs security processing of the packet to provide at least one security result.

Methods and systems are provided for supporting efficient and secure “Machine-to-Machine” (M2M) communications using a module, a server, and an application. A module can communicate with the server by accessing the Internet, and the module can include a sensor and/or an actuator. The module, server, and application can utilize public key infrastructure (PKI) such as public keys and private keys. The module can internally derive pairs of private/public keys using cryptographic algorithms and a first set of parameters. A server can authenticate the submission of derived public keys and an associated module identity. The server can use a first server private key and a second set of parameters to (i) send module data to the application and (ii) receive module instructions from the application. The server can use a second server private key and the first set of parameters to communicate with the module.

A method is provided for decrypting data encrypted according to a cipher key according the advanced encryption standard (AES). The method includes precomputing a product of each element value of an InvMixColumn matrix and each possible value of an input state array and deriving a set of round keys from the cipher key and the set of round keys. The deriving includes providing an initial round key and a plurality of further round keys, performing an initial decryption round, and performing N full decryption rounds at least in part using the precomputed product of each element value of an InvMixColumn matrix and each possible value of the input state array.

A computer-implemented method according to one embodiment includes compressing an uncompressed instance of data to create a compressed instance of data; encrypting the compressed instance of data utilizing wide-block encryption in response to determining that a size of the compressed instance of data is less than a predetermined threshold; and adding a zero pad to the encrypted compressed instance of data to create a ciphertext string.
