An authorized user obtains a packaging license that grants permission to use a particular recording device to generate multimedia content in accordance with specified license terms. The packaging license includes a content key that is used to encrypt the multimedia content at the point of capture on the recording device. The encrypted multimedia content can be transmitted via unsecure channels (for example, via electronic mail) to a networked content repository or an intended recipient. For playback, an authorized user obtains a playback license that grants permission to decrypt and playback the multimedia content using a particular playback device. An authorization server and a key management server are used to manage which users are entitled to receive a license, and to define the terms of the granted licenses. A record of the granted authorizations and licenses is maintained, thereby allowing access to a given content item to be audited.

In embodiments, an apparatus for computing may comprise an encryption engine to encrypt a video stream. The encryption engine may comprise a plurality of encryption pipelines to respectively encrypt a plurality of video sub-streams partitioned from the video stream in parallel in a single pass as the video sub-streams are being generated. The plurality of encryption pipelines may use a corresponding plurality of multi-part encryption counters to encrypt the corresponding video sub-streams as the video sub-streams are being generated. Each of the multi-part encryption counters used by one of the encryption pipelines may comprise a sub-portion that remains constant while encoding the corresponding video sub-stream, but the sub-key is unique for the one encryption pipeline, and differs from corresponding sub-portions of the multi-part encryption counters used by the other encryption pipelines. The media item is divided into different portions, each portion requiring a different key to decrypt the portion so that it may be viewed by a user. Based on the generated statistic, the streaming protection system determines whether or not to allow the client access to the decryption key for a portion of the media item.

Systems and methods for tracking media file playback are provided. A request to upload a media file and metadata associated with the media file is received. Next, the media file and metadata is uploaded via a blockchain protocol. Next, a request to play the media file is received from a client device or a digital service provider (DSP) platform. The request to play the media file is validated via the blockchain protocol. Upon validating the request to play the media file, the media file is transmitted for playback at the client device or DSP platform. Last, the number of times the media file is played is tracked via the blockchain protocol.

Methods and systems for generating an ephemeral content message

Exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for sending ephemeral content messages via a communications service. An interface may be presented to allow a user to initially access ephemeral content functionality and select content for inclusion in the ephemeral content message. The interface may present a streamlined set of use cases without regard to the manner in which the content was initially captured. Different types of content may be used as ephemeral content, including images, videos, weather reports, news stories, text, audio recordings, location tags, etc. The ephemeral content may be sent through the communications service as an end-to-end encrypted message. When a user replies to an ephemeral content message, the reply may trigger a one-to-one conversation between the originating user and the replying user. Alternatively, an ephemeral content message may be initially sent to a selected group, and replies may be sent back to the entire group.
