The present invention provides methods, apparatuses, and systems for delivering protected streaming content to a receiving device. In an aspect of the present invention, a broadcaster provides streaming content. To ensure viewers are properly authorized, the streaming content is encrypted with a traffic key. The traffic key is provided to the users via a key stream message, which is encrypted with a service key. The user obtains at least one rights object from a rights issuers and the at least one rights object includes the service key so that the streaming content may be used. The at least one rights object also contains information regarding usage rights that may be configured by the rights issuer so that, depending on the user and/or the receiving device, different rights may be available. The key stream message may include a program category variable value that indicates the type of content and in conjunction with the rights object, determines what usage rights exist for the streaming content.

A method and computer readable medium for exploring similar users and items of a media service includes generating a user interface. The user interface displays a user selectable indicia representing a similar member function for allowing a user to search a media service for at least one other user. The one other user has a degree of similarity with respect to the searching user. Another method includes facilitating the search of such a similar user within a media service.

A secure communication system is disclosed for communication between first and second party devices. An input interface is provided for receiving from an external host a unique host factor in addition to a user input interface for receiving from a user a unique PIN for a user and a selection input for selecting one of the plurality of stored entropy stores as a user selected entropy store A first private key generator is operable for generating a private key using a key generation algorithm requiring the selected entropy store, the host factor and the unique user PIN. The second party device includes a second storage device for storing a plurality of entropy stores. An input interface is provided for receiving the same unique host factor as received by the first party device. A communication interface facilitates communication with the first party device to receive from the first party device a user PIN and an indication of the user selected entropy store. A second private key generator is operable for generating a private key using the predetermined key generation algorithm with the received user PIN, the received host factor, and an extracted entropy store corresponding to user selected entropy store, wherein the private key generated by both the first and second private key generators are identical. The session is initiated to cause the generation of the identical private keys at both of the first and second private key generators and allow secure communication between the first and second devices. The private key at least one of the first and second devices is deleted at the end of the session.

A system is provided that includes a plurality of nodes and a plurality of instances of a distributed media rights transaction ledger associated with the plurality of the nodes. The plurality of nodes includes a first node associated with a first participant and a second node associated with a second participant. The first node interacts with the second node based on a defined protocol in a communication network. A method of providing a household key to a client device, comprising receiving a key request including a subscriber identifier at an update server from a client device, and determining whether the subscriber identifier has previously been associated with a household encryption key. The household encryption key can be configured to be used by the client device to encrypt recordings of media content it makes and/or decrypt recordings of media content it previously made or that it receives from another client device that encrypted the recording using the household key. If the subscriber identifier has previously been associated with a household encryption key, the update server retrieves the household key and sends it to the client device. If the subscriber identifier has not previously been associated with a household encryption key, the update server retrieves a new household key from a pool, associates the new household key with the subscriber identifier, and sends it to the client device.

A device security module may have access to the restricted region and may decrypt, based on satisfaction of a use condition and using the content key, the secured content. An encryption key associated with a secure media system authorized to access the secured content may be received. The device security module may encrypt, using the encryption key, the secured content and route the secured content to the secure media system.
