Content providing system, content reproducing device, content reproducing method, and computer program
A content reproducing device decrypts and outputs an encrypted content encrypted by a content key received from a content transmitting device. The content reproducing device includes a content key obtaining unit for obtaining the content key, and a storage unit for storing the key unique to the content transmitting device, usage restriction information to restrict the usage of the key unique to the content transmitting device, and link information indicating linking of the content transmitting device and the content reproducing device. The content reproducing device also includes a key decryption unit for decrypting the content key with the key unique to the content transmitting device in the event that the content reproducing device is included in the stored link information unit, and a usage control unit for restricting usage of the key unique to the content transmitting device, based on the stored usage restriction information.
System and method for preventing unauthorized use of digital media
A method includes: receiving a blacklist identifying piracy threatening items that pose a piracy threat such that, if installed and active with playback of the digital media content on the client, the piracy threatening items facilitate unauthorized use of the digital media content, the piracy threatening items on the blacklist having associated priority values; identifying first and second subsets of piracy threatening items in the blacklist responsive to the associated priority values; determining whether one or more piracy threatening items associated with the first subset are present on the client; performing a DRM transaction provisioning the digital media content for playback responsive to determining that no piracy threatening items associated with the first subset are present on the client; and determining whether to play back the digital media content responsive to determining whether one or more piracy threatening items associated with the second subset are present on the client.
Virtual collaboration systems and methods
A system including a domain controller and a document, policy, and collaboration servers. The document server receives a request signal based on an input received at a web browser of a user device and generates an authentication signal. The request signal requests access to a document. The document server provides a cloud-based service for access to the document. The domain controller, based on the authentication signal, determines a profile or authorization level of a user. The document server, based on the profile or the authorization level, transmits a second authentication signal to the user device. The policy server stores a digital rights management policy for the user. The collaboration server: based on the second authentication signal, receives a digital rights management signal from the user device; and based on the digital rights management policy of the user, permits a controller of the user device to access the document.
DYNAMICALLY CHANGING STREAM QUALITY WHEN USER IS UNLIKELY TO NOTICE TO CONSERVE RESOURCES
A computing device may be configured to automatically change at least a quality, display, video, and/or audio features for a content stream when a user is unlikely to notice such changes. When the user requests play of a stream of content, a determination may be made regarding a level of presence of the user and a configuration of the computing device. A level of quality is selected based on the determined level of presence/device configuration. At least one content stream is prepared and played using the selected level of quality. When a change in the level of presence of the user/or device configuration is detected, the at least one content stream can selectively be changed automatically.
Secure authenticated distance measurement
The invention relates to a method for a first communication device to perform authenticated distance measurement between the first communication device and a second communication device, wherein the first and the second communication device share a common secret and the common secret is used for performing the distance measurement between the first and the second communication device. The invention also relates to a method of determining whether data stored on a first communication device are to be accessed by a second communication device. Moreover, the invention relates to a communication device for performing authenticated distance measurement to a second communication device. The invention also relates to an apparatus for playing back multimedia content comprising a communication device.
Method for supplying protected multimedia content to a terminal
A Method for supplying protected multimedia content during which a terminal a) acquires a service date from a date server and b) evaluates a temporal criterion of a licence with respect to the last acquired service date. A headend associates with each segment of the multimedia content, its transmission date, and transmits it in a stream together with the segment. The terminal extracts from the stream the date of transmission of the segment, then it compares the extracted transmission date to the last acquired service date. And, only if the extracted transmission date is later than the last acquired service date, acquires it as service date, and uses it as last acquired service date on an execution of the step b) between two successive executions of the step a).
Method and apparatus for scalable data broadcasting
A data-publishing system facilitates broadcasting a data stream so that each client device obtains a personalized data stream. During operation, a publisher can generate an encoded data stream that does not include a reproducible version of the data stream's contents, and generates an encoding sauce to provide to at least one data-brokering system. When a broker receives a request from a client device for access to the data stream, the broker validates the client device's access to the data stream, and uses the encoding sauce to generate a secret sauce for the client device. The client device can process the encoded data stream using instructions in the secret sauce to produce a personalized data stream that includes a reproducible version of the data stream's contents.
Digital Media Distribution Computer System
The invention claimed is a digital media distribution system involving administration of digital copyright ownership registration and license purchase transactions of digital media under copyright licensure. Important aspects of the claimed invention presented include aspects such as user authentication methods, transaction administration methods and server features, and copyright protection mechanisms. The technical field pertaining to the claimed invention is described, and background information related to the claimed invention is given. Background considerations of digital copyright regarding propriety, legal implications, and ethical value of the claimed computer system invention utility are presented. Features and functions of two main types of system clients: a dedicated electronic device and a general-purpose personal computer software program, as well as ancillary types of clients are described in detail. Copyright registration and administration options for digital media distribution methods used by the claimed computer system invention are defined and described. System features related to transaction records and administration servers are described and claimed. Specific invention aspect claims are enumerated. Finally, terminology contemporary to information systems, data processing, and computing industries that are used in this patent document are clearly defined.
DOWNLOADABLE SECURITY AND PROTECTION METHODS AND APPARATUS
Methods and apparatus for control of data and content protection mechanisms across a network using a download delivery paradigm. In one embodiment, conditional access (CA), digital rights management (DRM), and trusted domain (TD) security policies are delivered, configured and enforced with respect to consumer premises equipment (CPE) within a cable television network. A trusted domain is established within the user's premises within which content access, distribution, and reproduction can be controlled remotely by the network operator. The content may be distributed to secure or non-secure output domains consistent with the security policies enforced by secure CA, DRM, and TD clients running within the trusted domain. Legacy and retail CPE models are also supported. A network security architecture comprising an authentication proxy (AP), provisioning system (MPS), and conditional access system (CAS) is also disclosed, which can interface with a trusted authority (TA) for cryptographic element management and CPE/user device authentication.
Methods and systems for enabling communications between devices
Methods and systems for selecting and delivering content are provided. More particularly, content can be delivered to an output device from a user device through a device adaptor, such as an over-the-top (OTT) device. The OTT device or devices available to the user device are determined by a communication server. In particular, the OTT device or devices available to the user device are limited to those OTT devices associated with an output device in the user's room, or that the user is otherwise authorized to access.
