Method, systems, and apparatus for fragmented file sharing

Systems, methods, software, and apparatus are described for facilitating the distribution and management of fragmented content. In one embodiment, a packager packages content into fragments and generates a manifest including policies and metadata associated with the content. A downloader obtains the manifest, and uses it to obtain the content from one or more uploaders. For example, a downloader might forward a search request to one or more trackers, which, in turn, are operable to locate one or more uploaders that can meet the request, subject to any relevant policy limitations. The uploaders forward fragments to the downloader, subject to any relevant policy. The downloader assembles the content from the fragments. The operations and interactions of the entities can be subject to policy limitations associated with the fragments, the content as a whole, or the like.

Software configuration of module dependent on history

A program controller is arranged to automatically authorize or configure or upgrade a program for a customer replaceable card of a system, the controller being arranged to manage the program automatically, according to a licence agreement, and according to a stored history of use of the hardware module. A supplier can track customer changes and enforce more easily different conditions for authorizing the program on, different modules from different sources, having different levels of capability. There can be less interaction with the supplier to get specific authorizations. The history can be stored on the module. It can be used to ease inventory tracking and generate billing information.

Establishing select routing of proprietary digital content

Methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, are described for establishing select routing of proprietary digital content. A server computing device prepares a package of digital content, where the digital content includes proprietary content and non-proprietary content. The server segregates the package of digital content into proprietary content and non-proprietary content, and assigns a content identifier to each item of proprietary content. The server transmits the proprietary content to a computing device of a digital content management service. The server receives a notification of acceptance of the proprietary content from the computing device of the digital content management service and a notification of acceptance of the non-proprietary content from a second remote computing device. The server presents an accepted package of digital content on the first remote computing device, where the accepted package comprises accepted proprietary content and accepted non-proprietary content.

ENHANCED CONTENT TRACKING SYSTEM AND METHOD

The invention, as shown by the system in FIG. 2, relates to a client-side content tracking system of media files, e.g. digital music files. Audio trackingor indeed multimedia trackingis shifted to a client-side perspective, with the client tasked with establishing use of a selected source audio track by trackingand then reporting uplink to the serverat least one of: entry and exit points associated with playing of at least one of said musical sections in the identified source audio track, and how the identified source audio track was used, performed or manipulated at the client device. Server functionality is designed, having regard to the reported tracking data and its link to a unique identifier to permit the media file (e.g. source audio track) to be selected and/or identified, to store or relaypossibly in the context of a subscription service and billing regime for content usetracking data related to use of at least a portion of the source audio track at or by the client device. In the context of audio, reporting of use at a client device can, in turn, cause streaming of related multi-media content from a third-party database to the client device. For music, reporting of entry and end points into and out of sections of complete audio tracks can coincide with musically seamless audio transitions between sections.

ENCRYPTION MANAGEMENT, CONTENT RECORDING MANAGEMENT, AND PLAYBACK MANAGEMENT IN A NETWORK ENVIRONMENT
20180183582 · 2018-06-28 ·

Management of key information as described herein enables a respective service provider to distribute encrypted content to subscribers, preventing improper use of the content without authorization. For example, the service provider can distribute encrypted content for recording by a subscriber at a remote location. At or around a time of recording the encrypted content, and on behalf of the user, the service provider initiates storage of the corresponding decryption information that is needed to decrypt the recorded encrypted content. In order to play back the recorded segments of the encrypted content, the subscriber communicates with a server resource to be authenticated. Subsequent to being authenticated, the server resource distributes a copy of decryption information needed to decrypt the previously recorded segments of encrypted content to the subscriber. Accordingly, the service provider retains control of playing back content via controlled distribution of the corresponding copy of decryption information.

Apparatus and method having broadcast key rotation

A method, comprising: receiving an encrypted segment of media data with an encrypted segment key over a unidirectional over-the-air (OTA) broadcast channel; providing an attestation request to an authenticator; receiving an attestation response from the authenticator based on an interaction with hardware to authenticate a user; decrypting, after receiving the attestation response, the encrypted segment of media data using a segment key to generate a decrypted segment of media data, wherein the segment key is based on the encrypted segment key.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING, ACTIVATING, PURCHASING AND ACCESSING PROTECTED CONTENT AND SERVICES FROM CONNECTED DEVICES

An approach is provided for providing digital rights management within a connected service and content ecosystem. The approach involves receiving a request for content for use at a least one device, wherein the request originates from at least one companion device. The approach also involves causing at least in part, a packaging of the content according to at least one digital rights management format based, at least in part, on identification information associated with at least one of: the at least one device; the at least one companion device; at least one user associated with the at least one device, the at least one companion device, or a combination thereof; and the content. The approach further involves causing, at least in part, a transmission of the packaged content, at least one link to the packaged content, or a combination thereof to the at least one device, the at least one companion device, or a combination thereof. The approach also involves causing, at least in part, an activation of the packaged content for use at the at least one device.

Authenticated communication between security devices

Apparatuses, computer readable media, and methods establishing and maintaining trust between security devices for distributing media content are provided. Two security devices bind to establish an initial trust so that security information can be exchanged. Subsequently, trust is refreshed to verify the source of a message is valid. In an embodiment, the security devices may comprise a security processor and a system on a chip (SoC) in a downloadable conditional access system. Trust may be refreshed by a security device inserting authentication information in a message to another security device, where authentication information may assume different forms, including a digital signature (asymmetric key) or a hash message authentication code (HMAC). Trust may also be refreshed by extracting header information from the message, determining state information from at least one parameter contained in the header information, and acting on message content only when the state information is valid.

Controlling use of shared content items based on client device

User accounts can be linked together to form a group of linked user accounts that can access content items assigned to the other user accounts in the group. A user can download content items assigned to their user account, as well as shared content items assigned to one of the other user accounts in the group of linked user accounts. Use of shared content items can be restricted to client devices running specified versions of an operating system. The key ID tagged to a shared content item can be altered such that the key ID no longer correctly identifies the corresponding DRM key that enables use of the shared content item. Client devices authorized to use shared content items can be configured to recognize that a content item is a shared content item and generate the original key ID form the altered key ID.

METHOD FOR SHARING AND SEARCHING PLAYLISTS

The present disclosure provides a method for making a playlist available to the public. In another embodiment, the present disclosure provides a method for creating a playlist comprising user-defined descriptor information. In another embodiment, the present disclosure provides a method for searching for such public playlists.
