Text assisted telephony on wireless device method and apparatus

A text-assisted telephony system for use by an assisted user while communicating with a hearing user via a hearing user's phone device. The system includes first and second assisted user's communication devices, each including a processor, a microphone, a speaker, a display and a communication component. One processor is programmed to establish a voice call with the hearing user's phone device. One processor is programmed to establish a communication link with the other processor. Each processor is programmed to generate an alert indicating when an incoming call is received and to enable an assisted user to answer the call and, upon one of the devices being used to answer a call, that device receiving text captions from a remote relay corresponding to a hearing user's voice signal and presenting the text captions to the assisted user via the device display.

Adjusting Signal Settings for a Display Using a Light Sensor

In some implementations, a mobile computing device may participate in the calibration of an output signal of a media device. This calibration process includes storing device-specific calibration data which is related to properties of a light sensor of the mobile device. The mobile device then detects of properties of light emitted by the display device during a presentation to obtain sensor values related to light emitted by the display device during the presentation. The calibration process may also ensure that the mobile device is proximate to the display device prior to obtaining the sensor values. The collected sensor values are adjusted using device-specific calibration data stored to the mobile device to normalize the sensor values relative to a baseline. These normalized sensor values are sent to the media device for use in adjusting the output signal based on the normalized sensor values.

MANAGING ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES FOR MOBILE DEVICE

Methods and apparatuses for managing accessibility features for mobile devices are described. Accessibility features may facilitate a user to interface with his/her mobile device and may be referred to as user-interface parameters configured to generate output or to receive input. The mobile device may generate an accessibility icon corresponding to one or more user-interface parameters selected by the user. The mobile device may also store a set of values provided by the user, where individual values correspond to individual user-interface parameters. Subsequently, the mobile device displays the accessibility icon such that the user may actuate the accessibility icon to adjust the user-interface parameters based on the values. Further, the user-interface parameters may be adjusted to more than one set of values. The mobile device may generate multiple accessibility icons that each correspond to different collections of the user-interface parameters.

Semiautomated relay method and apparatus

A method to transcribe communications includes obtaining an audio message from a first device during a voice communication session with a second device including a display screen, providing the message to a first speech recognition system to generate a first message transcript, providing the transcript to the second device for presentation on the screen, obtaining an indication that a transcript quality is below a threshold, providing, in response, the message to a second system to generate a second transcript while still providing it to the first system to generate the first transcript and providing the first transcript to the second device for presentation on the display screen, and in response to an event occurring that indicates the second transcript is to be provided to the second device instead of the first transcript, providing the second transcript to the second device for presentation on the screen instead of the first transcript.

UNIVERSAL PHONE ADAPTER SYSTEM AND METHOD

A system for assisting hearing-impaired persons using landline telephones is provided. The system comprises a portable electronic device that receives a first plurality of electronic signals from a telephone landline via a female modular RJ9 jack resident in the device, the signals comprising audible content. The system routes the first plurality of electronic signals to a first female auditory output resident in the device. The system transmits the signals to a first male-ended listening device connected to the first auditory output. The first male-ended listening device is a hearing aid device accessory adapter used by a first user wearing a hearing aid or a cochlear implant. The portable electronic device receives second electronic signals at a female auditory input from the first user, the second electronic signals representing spoken audible content provided by the first user. A second male-ended device comprising a microphone connects with the auditory input.

A system is provided that includes a first network interface for a first network type and a second network interface for a second network type that is different from the first network type. The system also includes at least one processor configured to cause the system to perform operations. The operations may include obtaining, from the first network interface, audio from a communication session with a remote device established over the first network and obtaining an indication of a communication device available to participate in the communication session and direct audio obtained from the communication session to a remote transcription system. The operations may also include directing the audio to the second network interface for transmission to the communication device, obtaining transcript data from the remote transcription system based on the audio, and directing the transcript data to the second network interface for transmission to the communication device.

Semiautomated relay method and apparatus

A method and system for providing captioned telephone service, the method comprising the steps of, initiating a first captioned telephone service call, during the first captioned telephone service call, creating a first set of captions using a call assistant, simultaneous with creating the first set of captions using a call assistant, creating a second set of captions using an automated speech recognition engine, comparing the first set of captions and the second set of captions using a scoring algorithm based on errors between the first and second sets of captions to generate a score for the second set of captions, in response to the score being within a predetermined threshold range, continuing the call using only the automated speech recognition engine to generate text and in response to the score being outside of the predetermined threshold range, continuing the call using a call assistant to generate captions.
