An apparatus is disclosed for providing voice-over-IP (VoIP) services to and configuring contact lists for a plurality of VoIP-enabled devices. The apparatus includes a VoIP server communicatively connected to the plurality of VoIP-enabled devices. The VoIP server can includes a device management circuit configured to maintain a list of IP addresses for each of the plurality of VoIP-enabled devices. In response to receiving a first data message, from a first device not included in the plurality of VoIP-enabled devices, that includes contact information and identifies one of the plurality of VoIP-enabled devices, the device management circuit adds a new contact having the contact information to the respective contact list of the identified one of the plurality of VoIP-enabled devices.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for communicating with a hotel, for example, by establishing calls from a mobile communication device as an extension of a PBX of the hotel. The mobile communication device can receive, by a network interface, guest registration data for a guest of the hotel, including the room assignment and one or more guest service extensions on the PBX. The mobile communication device can store the guest registration data in electronic memory to configure the one or more guest service keys with the one or more guest service extensions. The mobile communication device can based on a selection of a key of one or more guest service keys, communicate directly with the PBX, by the network interface, to place and receive calls as an extension of the PBX associated with the hotel room assignment.

Methods and apparatus are provided for sharing device capabilities of Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) devices with a service provider entity. Device capabilities of one or more UPnP devices in a UPnP home network environment are obtained. The device capabilities are aggregated. The aggregated device capabilities are mapped in a user agent profile. The user agent profile including the device capabilities is communicated to the service provider entity so that the service provider entity delivers telephony services to the one or more UPnP devices according to respective device capabilities.

Systems and methods for configuring network devices are provided. Aspects of the disclosure relate to configuration parameters and methods for using configuration parameters to provide enhanced services to users in a network. Updated configuration parameters may be provided in response to a request for temporary alteration of a communication parameter associated with a communication protocol of a network device. The updated communication parameter may cause alteration of a communication parameter associated with the communication protocol while leaving unchanged a second communication protocol of the network device.

A phone appliance and method of use are provided where the phone appliance can be used to make VoIP communications calls. In a preferred embodiment, the phone appliance includes an RF connection for connecting to a computer or other computing device for facilitating the placement of the VoIP communications calls. The phone appliance further includes a display or portal for depicting advertisements provided by various advertisers. The advertisements provided can be used to defray all or part of the cost associated with making VoIP communications calls. The portal can also be used to communicate with businesses for ordering products. such as ordering a pizza, and to perform various services, such as purchasing stocks. In an exemplary system, the phone appliance is used to transmit to a control center information related to the user of the phone appliance, such as interests and buying habits, and queries for receiving additional information for various advertised products and services. The control center transmits the queries to the appropriate vendors for providing the user with additional information. Other functions and features are provided to the phone appliance, such as being able to download e-mail messages stored within or received by the computer.

A communication terminal for Internet telephony is provided that handles and control communication of data in accordance with a standardized network protocol and exchanges data with a connecting unit connected to the Internet where the resulting data exchanged between the terminal and a connecting unit consist of packets in a standardized protocol data packet format embedded in a wireless format. This provides a communications terminal which uses a network or the Internet for the transfer of digitized speech, etc., thereby achieving great economic savings. A method for maintaining a captioning service for an assisted user (AU) comprising the steps of, at a relay, connect to a second AU device via the computer network address, receive an HU calling number from the second AU device, upon recognizing the HU calling number as an emergency number, assign a temporary relay calling number to the AU, store the temporary relay calling number with the computer network address associated with the second AU device, use the emergency number to establish a first communication link with an emergency service provider and present the temporary relay calling number to the emergency service provider, upon termination of the first communication link, upon receiving a call using the temporary relay calling number, use the temporary calling number to identify the network address of the second AU device and the calling number of the first AU device and use the calling number of the first AU device and the network address to re-establish communication with the first AU device and the second AU device, respectively.

Embodiments of the invention provide a communication system including a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory may include a communication module with an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) database. Herein, the database may include a list of telephone numbers associated with one or more destinations implementing one or more IVR menus. Further, the memory includes instructions set having one or more instructions executable by the processor for automatically interfacing with a user interface system comprising voice to electronic signal subsystem. More specifically, the voice request of the user may be converted into digital form. Further, the instructions executable by the processor may initiate search within said database following a voice command captured by said voice to electronic signal subsystem. Furthermore, the memory includes instructions executable by the processor to initiate voice call to a telephone number within said database according to the result of said search.

[Solution] A communication system comprises a server and a terminal device. The server stores first information in order for the terminal device to communicate, and stores second information in order for the terminal device to connect to a network of the other bases. When the power is turned on in a normal operation, the terminal device connects to the network by using network information in a non-volatile memory unit, obtains the first information from the server, and writes the same in a volatile memory unit. Thus, the terminal device starts operation. When the power is turned on by using a particular operation, the terminal device connects to the network by using the network information in the non-volatile memory unit, obtains network information of the other bases from the server, and stores the same in the non-volatile memory unit. Thus, it is possible to connect to the network of the other bases.
