An in-vehicle navigation apparatus with a handsfree function establishes a Bluetooth communication link with a cellular phone. When receiving from the cellular phone outgoing call history data and incoming call history data, which were stored in the cellular phone before establishing the Bluetooth communication link, the in-vehicle navigation apparatus stores, in a work memory, the received outgoing call history data and the received incoming call history data, equally to, of the navigation apparatus itself, outgoing call history data and incoming call history data. An outgoing call operation then becomes possible using outgoing call history data and incoming call history data, which are stored in the work memory.

To provide a called one with information on the caller, a reference to a resource containing real-time or near-realtime information relating to the caller, or information deduced using the real-time or near-real-time information, or the real-time or near-real-time information, or the information deduced using the real-time or near-real-time information, is transmitted with a connection establishment request, and the information in the resource or the received information is displayed to the called one before the requested connection is established so that the called one can make a decision whether or not to answer the call.

A method and systems for identifying communicators as wanted or unwanted based on communications from such communicators, the method comprising determining communications from phone numbers as being unwanted by analyzing communication content features of communications associated with unwanted communicators, identifying telecommunications carriers that acquired the phone numbers, computing scores for the telecommunications carriers based on an amount of the determined unwanted communications from the phone numbers are unwanted, intercepting an inbound communication from a given phone number, identifying the given phone number is associated with a given one of the telecommunications carriers, and configuring handling of communications from the phone number based on a score of the given telecommunications carrier.

In a portable terminal device, it is possible to display information of caller and the like when a call is received. Incoming call signal reception means (11) receives an incoming call signal including a caller number, caller information, and ring type information. Image generation means (12) generates, based on the incoming call signal, a caller information image including at least a portion of the caller information as character information. Telephone dictionary registering means (13) registers the caller number, caller text information, and the caller information image in a telephone dictionary (14). Incoming call screen display means (15) receives the caller number and acquires the registered caller text information and the caller information image corresponding to the received caller number from the telephone dictionary (14). An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method provide an improved call log that presents information relating to logged phone calls in a collapsed manner, meaning that for each phone number having a call stored in the memory of the device, only the most recent in time call is listed on the call log. An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method also provide a call history for any phone call from the improved call log that is selected by the user. The call history includes a listing of all of the calls stored by the device that are associated with the selected call log call.

Systems and methods are described herein for a computer-based communication application that displays, along with an incoming call notification, content specific to the parties involved. The application identifies electronic records of events attended by the users, and retrieves content specific to those records. For example, the application may identify electronic mail or meeting notifications sent between the users and concerning a particular subject matter. Images related to that subject matter are then retrieved and displayed during calls between those users. Users are thus presented with customized and personalized content specific to the subject matter of each call, thus helping them better recognize callers and more readily engage with the call.

A communication device and method can include one or more processors operatively coupled to memory and an audible output device, where the one or more processors receive a call from a calling party that includes caller identification information and a voice paging message associated with the caller identification information, presenting the caller identification information, presenting the voice paging message as an alias of or to a ring tone or interleaved with the ring tone before the call from the calling party is answered or rejected. A communication device and method can include one or more processors operatively coupled to memory and an audible output device, where the one or more processors receive a call from a calling party that includes caller identification information and a voice paging message associated with the caller identification information, presenting the caller identification information, presenting the voice paging message as an alias of or to a ring tone or interleaved with the ring tone before the call from the calling party is answered or rejected.
