ANTIBACTERIAL COATING OR SURFACE COMPRISING VERTICAL, STANDING ANGSTROM SCALE FLAKES
An antibacterial device is disclosed that includes a substrate and an antibacterial coating or antibacterial surface being provided on at least a part of the substrate's surface. The antibacterial coating or surface includes Angstrom scale flakes, where the Angstrom scale flakes are arranged in a standing position on the substrate surface and are attached to the substrate surface via edge sides thereof. The Angstrom scale flakes can, for example, be graphene flakes, or graphite flakes having a thickness of a few atom layers. It has been found that such standing flakes are efficient in killing prokaryotic cells but do not harm eukaryotic cells.

ENDOTRACHEAL TUBE AND METHOD OF USE THEREOF
The present disclosure relates generally to an endotracheal tube and to a method of using such a device. One embodiment of the device includes an inflatable balloon having at least a portion of its surface covered with a super-hydrophobic coating. In another embodiment, the inflatable balloon has a variable wall thickness which can allow for expansion of the balloon against the oropharynx to prevent tissue pressure necrosis within the trachea.

The present invention provides an article, at least part of it being coated by inorganic fullerene-like (IF) nanoparticles or composite containing such nanoparticles. Preferably, the invention provides an article made of metal, for use in dentistry or medicine e.g. archwire, needle or catheter, having a friction-reducing film, and methods for coating such articles with a friction-reducing film.
Silicone septum coating
A silicone septum having a surface coating. The coated silicone septum may be incorporated in an intravenous catheter assembly. The coating reduces static charge among a plurality of vibrating silicone septa during manufacture of the intravenous catheter assembly. The surface coating includes a coating agent selected from a bicarbonate salt and a siloxane polyalkyleneoxide copolymer. The bicarbonate salt may be an alkali metal bicarbonate. The siloxane polyalkyleneoxide copolymer may include copolymer groups selected from ethyleneoxide, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane, and mixtures thereof. The silicon septum may be coated by contacting an exterior surface of the silicone septum with a coating solution of a solvent and the coating agent for at least 5 minutes. The coating agent has a concentration in the solvent greater than 1 wt. %. Excess coating solution is removed from the exterior surface of the silicone septum. The exterior surface is dried to remove the solvent, forming the surface coating.
ORTHOTOPIC ARTIFICIAL BLADDER ENDOPROSTHESIS
An orthotopic artificial bladder endoprosthesis includes a casing defining an enclosure for containing the urine of a patient; the casing being made of a PGA fiber fabric; two first connectors connected to the casing and connectable to the ureters of the patient to allow the entrance of the urine into the enclosure; a second connector connected to the casing and connectable to the patient's urethra to allow the outflow of the urine from the enclosure; a catheter inserted in the enclosure through the second connector and including a duct and an expandable element in fluid communication with the duct.
Use of silver-containing layers at implant surfaces
The disclosure relates to coatings that contain silver, either in the form of metallic silver, silver oxides, salts of silver, or combinations of these. The silver is present in a microparticulate or nanoparticulate form, which exerts antimicrobial activity when bacteria (e.g., in a body fluid) contact the coated surface. The coatings are applied through accumulation of silver-containing particles on the surface, such as by sputtering or electron beam vapor deposition. As a result, their thickness, particle size, and density can be controlled. Furthermore, the surface can also be coated with other substances, such as diamond-like carbon or alumina, either as a discrete layer or intermixed with the silver-containing particles.
