Method and apparatus for over-the-air activation of neighborhood cordless-type services

A method for providing local cordless service comprises the steps of receiving subscriber neighborhood zone selection input so that a mobile telephone equipped subscriber may place or receive calls for a fixed rate, for example, per month without having to pay radio frequency air time charges any time they are located within their selected subscribed-to zones. If the subscribed-to zones are adjacent to one another and the mobile subscriber roans from one zone to another, the subscriber may continue their fee call uninterrupted and without paying air time charges. However, when the subscriber roans outside their subscribed-to zones they may be switched from the present local cordless services to conventional personal communications services and pay air time charges. However for an active call, No air-time charges are incurred as the user transitions between the cellular/DPCS environment and the local cordless service environment.

Packet data connectivity control with volume charged service limitation

A node of a wireless communication network (150; 160; 170; 210; 220; 230; 240) receives an indication from a user equipment (10). The indication indicates that a limitation of volume charged packet data services is required for the user equipment (10). Depending on the received indication, the node (150; 160; 170; 210; 220; 230; 240) prevents transmission of packet data associated with the volume charged packet data services and allows transmission of packet data associated with one or more other packet data services.

Information processing method using virtual subscriber identification card information, electronic apparatus and server

An information processing method, an electronic apparatus, and a server are described. The information processing method applied to the electronic apparatus includes sending a service request to a server through a first subscriber identification card channel, when the electronic apparatus itself is in a roaming state, the service request being used for requesting the server to allocate virtual subscriber identification card information to the electronic apparatus, and a virtual subscriber identification card being virtual and belonging to a current place where the electronic apparatus is located; receiving a service response sent by the server through the first subscriber identification card channel, the service response including the virtual subscriber identification card information; obtaining a target subscriber identification card channel; and executing data service transmission in a communication network under a roaming state by using the virtual subscriber identification card information and the target subscriber identification card channel.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING A MOBILE STATION CELL CHANGE OPERATION IN THE GENERAL PACKET RADIO SYSTEM (GPRS)

A mobile station executed method, wherein upon changing from a current cell to a new cell in a wireless packet data network the mobile station enters the new cell; generates a cell change packet data unit (PDU) message for informing the network of the location of the mobile station in the new cell; buffers the cell change PDU message into a PDU transmit queue before any buffered PDUs that were present before the mobile station entered the new cell; and transmits the buffered cell change PDU before any of the buffered PDUs that were present before the mobile station entered the new cell. In accordance with another method for informing the wireless network of the MS cell change, the following steps are executed: (i) in response to the MS making access in a new cell, sending a Channel Request that indicates a Cell Update operation; (ii) establishing an uplink (UL) Temporary Block Flow (TBF) for transferring Logical Link Control (LLC) Packet Data Units (PDUs) from the MS to the network; (iii) in response to the network receiving an unknown Temporary Logical Link Identifier (TLLI) from the MS, sending a message to a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) and (iv) based on the message, determining with the SGSN the new cell location of the MS.

User profile conversion to support roaming

In an example embodiment, a method includes receiving, from a visited network having a first wireless network type, a first update location request message according to a first signaling protocol, the first message associated with a user equipment roaming at the visited network. The first message is converted to a second update location request message according to a second signaling protocol and transmitted to a home network associated with the user equipment, the home network having a second wireless network type. An update location response message according to the second protocol is received from the home network, the update location response message including a user profile associated with the second network type. A combined user profile is generated based on a user profile associated with the first network type and the user profile associated with the second network type. The combined user profile is transmitted to the visited network in an update location answer message according to the first protocol.

Aspects of the present invention are directed towards a system and method for facilitating local data service via communication exchange system where, within an ecosystem of one or more operators, a gateway is deployed by an operator for facilitating local data services for users that either the operator's local subscriber and inbound roamer. The gateway connects to the operators via VPN tunnel to facilitate local data services. The communication exchange also includes an interface that maintains a bi-directional connection with the gateway to exchange information related to roaming data services, and a bi-directional connection with users via their mobile devices' user interfaces.

Monitoring Device Geolocations

A system for monitoring device geolocations may enable a mobile device to operate effectively as the device moves across various coverage areas. The system may include a server that receives geolocation data from a mobile device and modifies one or more service plans associated with the device based on the geolocation data. The mobile device may include application software for communicating with the server. The system may also include an administration application that notifies an administrator when a change in a device's geolocation may trigger an action item. The administrator may act on the action item, for example, by modifying one or more service plans associated with the device to enable or disable certain account for the change in the device's location.

CQI verification for a roaming WCD

A Mobility Management Entity (MME) of a wireless network and verification method for verifying a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) of a roaming Wireless Communication Device (WCD) are provided. The MME in one example includes an interface configured to receive a roaming request of the roaming WCD and a processing system coupled to the interface. The processing system is configured to obtain a home CQI of the roaming WCD, compare the home CQI to a contract-stipulated CQI for the roaming WCD, and use the contract-stipulated CQI for the roaming WCD if the home CQI differs from the contract-stipulated CQI.
