A handset transfer-data conversion section that executes a predetermined conversion process according to a type of handset transfer-data stored in a storage section. Specifically, the handset transfer-data conversion section converts an audio format of ringtone data according to a use CODEC of a cordless handset. In addition, the handset transfer-data conversion section converts an image size of wallpaper data into a size reproducible in the cordless handset. Further, the handset transfer-data conversion section converts an image size of image data of the other party included in telephone directory data into a size reproducible in the cordless handset.

ULE B-field paging is used to indicate the presence of an incoming call to multiple handsets, or handset groups. Also, the ULE Connectionless, (connectionless), downlink may be used to indicate other information. This information would include but not be limited to Caller ID, pending address book changes, and SMS message pending.

The processor (24) processes monitoring signals provided by the monitoring system and provides notifications when that processing indicates a predefined event. The human I/O interface (20) displays such notifications. The portable unit communications system (22) communicates with the base unit communications system (18) using a DECT communications protocol and with a Wi-Fi network (30).
