A portable device (e.g., a wireless device such as a cell phone) is provided with a flexible keyboard and a flexible display screen. Such flexible components may be stored in the housing of the portable device when not in use. The flexible display screen and flexible keyboard may be expanded from the housing when the flexible components are utilized by a user. Non-flexible display and input components may be provided on the exterior of the portable device such that the device may be used, in some form, while the flexible components are stored. In one embodiment, a portion of the flexible display (or flexible keyboard) may be utilized when the flexible display (or flexible keyboard) is stored in said first housing.

A portable terminal apparatus includes an enclosure and a display attached to the enclosure and displaying at least part of a communication address and a Web page that is addressable by the communication address. An input that receives inputs from an user and a processor operates the Web page according with the inputs received through the input, wherein the communication address is displayed on an upper portion of the Web page, and the processor shifts the Web page along with the communication address downward when receiving a predetermined input.

A system and method for coupling a peripheral to a device such as a smart phone. In a most general embodiment, the invention includes a first circuit for converting data signals output by the peripheral to analog signals; a connector for coupling the circuit to an input port of the device; and a second circuit disposed within the device for converting analog signals to data signals. In the illustrative embodiment, the first circuit is a frequency shift key generator and the second circuit is a frequency shift key detector. A host controller is coupled to the peripheral and a microcontroller coupled to the host controller. A serial port is coupled between the microcontroller and the host controller. A communication controller is coupled between the serial port and the frequency shift key generator. In a more specific embodiment, the device further includes a frequency shift key to binary data converter and a scan code to character set mapper and an arrangement for receiving and processing signals wirelessly via an infrared receiver.

A rollable and flexible input device includes a drum, a reel, an input device body connected to the reel, and a driving portion. The driving portion includes a spiral spring, a ratchet, a limit element, and a driving button. The spiral spring includes a first end fixed to the reel and a second end fixed to the drum. The ratchet is fixed to the reel. The limit element is fixed to the drum. The driving button is installed on the drum. The input device body drives the reel to rotate when being unrolled, so that the ratchet is clamped with the limit element, and the spiral spring is elastically deformed. When being rolled up, the driving button presses against the limit element to release the ratchet, and the spiral spring restores to drive the reel to retract, so that the reel retracts the input device body.

An apparatus is disclosed, including a first display and a second display and a controller operatively coupled to the first display and the second display, the controller configured to receive an input, identify a function associated with the input, present first information associated with a first function via the first display operatively coupled to the electronic device if the identified function is the first function, and present second information associated with a second function via the second display operatively coupled to the electronic device if the identified function is the second function.
