Computer-implemented techniques can include obtaining future travel plans for a user in a region that utilizes a language that is foreign to the user and predicting, based on the future travel plans, an expected future offline period during which the user is unlikely to have access to a network connection via a client computing device. The techniques can include identifying one or more points of interest in future the travel plans in the expected future offline period where the user is likely to require translation of foreign language text and obtaining portions of foreign language text associated therewith. The techniques can also include, prior to the expected future offline period, obtaining translated portions of text representing translations of the portions of foreign language text to a preferred language of the user and transmitting, to the client computing device, the translated portions of text.

Provided is a mobile terminal including: a display unit on which screen information is output; a translation function unit that translates a translation-source information portion of the screen information that is output to the display unit; and a controller that outputs translation-target information into which the translation-source information portion is translated using the translation function unit, on a translation window, in which in a state where the screen information is output on the display unit, the translation window is positioned in one region of the display unit.

The method comprises: obtaining a National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) position message through the Global Positioning System (GPS); interpreting the NMEA message to obtain the current time and the current position information of the mobile terminal; obtaining a nation to which the current position belongs according to the position information, recognizing the language of the nation; and updating the setup information of the mobile terminal according to the recognized language and the current time. Through the invention, the setup information of the mobile terminal can be updated according to the location of the mobile terminal.

A playback apparatus includes: an acquiring unit that acquires auditory language data including data to be played back as a spoken voice; an analyzing unit that analyzes the auditory language data to output an analysis result; a setting unit that sets at least a portion of the auditory language data to a control portion to be played back at a set playback speed, based on the analysis result; and a voice playback unit that plays back the control portion as a spoken voice at the set playback speed.

An improved translation experience is provided using an auxiliary device, such as a pair of earbuds, and a wirelessly coupled mobile device. Microphones on both the auxiliary device and the mobile device simultaneously capture input from, respectively, a primary user (e.g., wearing the auxiliary device) and a secondary user (e.g., a foreign language speaker providing speech that the primary user desires to translate). Both microphones continually listen, rather than alternating between the mobile device and the auxiliary device. Each device may determine when to endpoint and send a block of speech for translation, for example based on pauses in the speech.
