Disclosed are an apparatus for transmitting a message and a method thereof that perform a preset message transmission function or a preset line break function by selecting a character key on a message input screen displayed on the apparatus for transmitting a message and then pressing another character key displayed in a preset color around the selected character key for a preset time or longer so that the efficiency of keyboard input is enhanced and the convenience of a user inputting text is improved.

A smartphone (100) includes a touch panel (1) and a controller (2). The controller (2) includes a receiving section (201), a first determining section (203) and a display controller (205). The receiving section (201) receives input of a character string. The first determining section (203) determines whether or not the character string includes a specific character. The display controller (205) displays that the specific character is included based on a result of determination by the first determining section (203). The character string indicates a plurality of arranged characters. The specific character indicates a character which is frequently input erroneously.

A character input device for character input reflecting a user's situation includes an operation unit that receives an input operation associated with a character input, a detector that detects an operating speed for the input operation, and a predictive suggestion generation unit that outputs predictive suggestions for the character input in accordance with the operating speed.

In a computer-implemented method, a portion of an electronic document is displayed on a touch screen display of a portable multifunction device. The displayed portion has a vertical position and a horizontal position in the electronic document. An object is detected on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document. In response to detecting the object, a vertical bar and a horizontal bar are displayed on top of the displayed portion. The vertical bar has a vertical position on top of the displayed portion that corresponds to the vertical position in the electronic document of the displayed portion. The horizontal bar has a horizontal position on top of the displayed portion that corresponds to the horizontal position in the electronic document of the displayed portion. After a predetermined condition is met, display of the vertical bar and of the horizontal bar is ceased.

An electronic device according to one aspect includes a touch screen including a first key region to which a plurality of first keys are allocated and a second key region to which a plurality of second keys are allocated; and at least one controller configured to execute character input processing based on operations onto the first key detected in the first key region and the second key detected in the second key region of the touch screen, wherein the first key region is a region extending along a first rim of the touch screen, the plurality of the first keys is arranged along the first rim, the second key region is a region extending along a second rim of the touch screen which is different from the first rim, and the plurality of the second keys is arranged along the second rim.

In response to the finger gestures, the device selects content, visually distinguishes the selected content, and/or updates the selected content based on detected input. In a computer-implemented method, a portion of an electronic document is displayed on the touch screen display. The displayed portion of the electronic document has a vertical position in the electronic document. An object is detected on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document. In response to detecting the object on or near the displayed portion of the electronic document, a vertical bar is displayed on top of the displayed portion of the electronic document. The vertical bar has a vertical position on top of the displayed portion of the electronic document that corresponds to the vertical position in the electronic document of the displayed portion of the electronic document. After a predetermined condition is met, display of the vertical bar is ceased. The vertical bar is displayed for a predetermined time period when the portion of the electronic document is initially displayed.
