An image forming apparatus for authenticating a portable terminal by near field wireless communication with the portable terminal includes an image forming portion configured to form an image on a sheet, and an operating portion configured to receive an operation by an operator. The operating portion includes a display panel capable of displaying information on image formation in response to authentication of the portable terminal and includes therein an antenna for establishing the near field wireless communication with the portable terminal. The display panel is capable of displaying a guide screen for guiding an operator so as to hold the portable terminal over the display panel.

An example device capable of predicting print substance end-of-life (EOL) comprises a container to hold a print substance, the container comprising a refill port through which print substance is to be introduced into the container. An image forming apparatus includes a feeder having a tray and configured to convey a sheet, a reader including a platen, an image forming unit configured to form a test pattern, and a controller. The controller adjusts, based on a result of reading the sheet having the test pattern formed thereon, a quality of an image to be formed by the image forming unit. In a case where a sheet of a first type having the test pattern formed thereon is placed on the tray, the feeder conveys the sheet. In a case where a sheet of a second type having the test pattern formed thereon is placed on the tray, the controller is configured to display a notification representing that the sheet is not to be conveyed by the feeder.

An information processing apparatus controls display of a plurality of applications on a screen. The information processing apparatus includes circuitry to: acquire first image data that at least includes a display area of a first application displayed on the screen; acquire information on the display area of the first application; and generate second image data that includes at least a part of the first image data based on the information on the display area of the first application.

A control method for a device searched for by an external terminal is provided. The method includes: transmitting a first response when a searching request for a first searching protocol is received from the external terminal; and transmitting a second response when a searching request for a second searching protocol different from the first searching protocol is received from the external terminal. Each of the first and second responses includes identification information for uniquely identifying the device. The included identification information is differentiated between the first and second responses.

A document reading device includes an image reading part, a document conveying part, an operation display part, an overlap detecting part and a controlling part. The overlap detecting part detects overlap of a document conveyed to the image reading part. When the overlap detecting part detects the overlap, if an overlap image corresponding to the overlap in the image data obtained by the image reading part matches with a predetermined preservation image, the controlling part decides that the overlap is not double feed to continue the scanning operation. If the overlap image does not match with the predetermined preservation image, the controlling part decides that the overlap is the double feed, stops the scanning operation, and, if user judgement that the overlap is not the double feed is inputted in accordance with operation of the operation display part, stores the preservation image on the basis of the overlap image.

A voice-operated system includes a processing device, and a controller that communicates with the processing device. The processing device includes a first processor to perform: displaying, on an operating panel, an operation screen for instructing a process for execution by the processing device, to receive user's instruction; and executing a process corresponding to a command received from the controller. The controller includes a second processor to perform: generating the command for the processing device based on an input voice; and transmitting the command to the processing device. The generation of the command includes, when the voice instructs the processing device to execute a first process, generating a first command for instructing the operating panel to display the operation screen for instructing execution of the first process; and when the voice instructs the processing device to execute a second process, generating a second command for instructing execution of the second process.

An image forming apparatus and method for using calendar information are provided. The image forming apparatus includes a display to display a user interface window for selecting a function supported by the image forming apparatus, a communication device to receive, from a calendar server, schedule information of the image forming apparatus and user information corresponding a particular schedule, and a processor to control the display to display a user interface window for a schedule corresponding to a current time and user information corresponding to the schedule.
