In examples, the device includes a frame defining an opening of a scanner sub-assembly, the frame including a first side and a second side in contact with the first side; and a transparent panel coupled to the frame to cover the opening, a first side of the transparent panel disposed to be substantially planar with a first side of the frame, and a second side of the transparent panel disposed to be substantially planar with the second side of the frame.

An image forming apparatus that utilizes a communication device is disclosed. A communication unit of a housing which corresponds to an antenna portion is provided at a position at which the communication unit can be seen without obstruction from the upper side. A communication device such as a smartphone can be brought close to or into contact with the communication unit readily. Accordingly, wireless communication between the antenna portion and the communication device can be established.

In a light scanning device, a substrate equipped with a polygonal mirror is disposed astride an interior section and an exposed section of a housing. The substrate is provided with a separator that comes into contact with a front face thereof. The separator separates the substrate into a first region disposed in the interior section and a second region disposed in the exposed section. The polygonal mirror is provided in the second region of the substrate.

An image reading apparatus includes an image scanning unit that is provided with a holding portion holding a flexible flat cable. The holding portion is protruded toward an upstream side in a sub scanning direction, and provided with a second wall part. The flexible flat cable that is extended from a connector is brought into contact with the second wall part. As for the flexible flat cable, a downward movement is regulated by a lower holding portion and an upward movement is regulated by an upper holding portion. Accordingly, the flexible flat cable does not rise.

The platform may include a transparent portion, which may be adjacent to a stage portion. The first and second mirrors may be positioned such as to allow imaging of a reverse side of an object through the transparent portion of the platform while the object rests on the stage portion.
