An image reading apparatus includes a first image reading unit, a second image reading unit provided on a side opposite from the first image reading unit with respect to a sheet feeding passage, a first guiding member, a second guiding member, a first unit holding the first image reading unit and the second guiding member, and a second unit holding the second image reading unit and the first guiding member. One of the first unit and the second unit is movable relative to the other unit so as to open the sheet feeding passage.

An image forming system includes an information terminal for storing therein a captured image, and an image forming apparatus for generating image data of a job page including a read image. The information terminal accepts an operation of laying out the captured image in the setting page and transmits layout information to the image forming apparatus. In order to discriminate the read image corresponding to the captured image as an object image and generate image data of the job page, the image forming apparatus makes a layout of the object image in the job page similar to the layout of the captured image corresponding to the object image in the setting page.

An image forming apparatus includes a printer portion; an image reading portion rotatable relative to the printer portion; a discharge portion configured to stack the recording material discharged from an inside of the printer portion, the discharge portion being supported rotatably relative to the printer portion; and a regulating member provided between the discharge portion and the image reading portion and configured to regulate movement of the recording material stacked on the discharge portion. An image forming apparatus includes a printer unit configured to form a toner image on a recording material, the printer unit including a fixing portion configured to heat-fix the toner image on the recording material; a reader unit provided above the printer unit and configured to read an image of an original, the reader unit including an image sensor configured to optically read the original; wherein in a side of the reader unit opposed to the printer unit, there are provided a suction opening configured to suck air from a outside of the reader unit and a discharging opening configured to discharge the air to a outside of the reader unit, and wherein an air flow path connecting the suction opening and the discharging opening overlaps with a entirety of the image sensor in a main scan direction which is an axial direction of the image sensor.

According to an automatic document feeder of a multifunction peripheral according to the present invention, two tilt sensors are provided in the middle of a document conveyance path to detect a tilt degree of a document being conveyed along the document conveyance path. Here, for example, if the positional deviation representing the tilt degree of the document is greater than a predetermined threshold value ΔLs, the conveyance of the document is stopped. On the other hand, if this is not the case, the conveyance of the document is continued. In addition, the threshold value is set in accordance with the width dimension of the document, and in particular, the larger the width dimension, the smaller the threshold value.

An image reading apparatus, having a placement table, a reader to read an image recorded on the recordable medium placed on the placement table while moving in one direction, a memory storing information concerning a test pattern, and a controller, is provided. The controller is configured to, when instructed to read the test pattern, control the reader to stop reading to pause before reading the test pattern completely, while the reader pauses, based on read data generated from an outcome of reading of the test pattern so far and the information concerning the test pattern, determine whether the read data satisfies a predetermined condition, and when the read data satisfies the predetermined condition, control the reader to resume reading the test pattern, but when the read data does not satisfy the predetermined condition, control the reader to abort reading the test pattern and output an error alerting signal.

An image reader used as a back surface reading unit includes LEDs, a first mirror, a second mirror, a third mirror, a lens, and a CCD inside a housing. The first mirror, which first reflects light reflected from the document, is positioned farther away from the document reading position than other reflecting mirrors (i.e. the second mirror and the third mirror) in an optical axis direction of the optical path connecting the document reading position and the first mirror.

An image reading apparatus includes a first supporting portion, a sheet conveyance portion, an image reading portion, a second supporting portion, and an illumination portion. The image reading portion is configured to read an image of the sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyance portion. The second supporting portion is disposed below the first supporting portion and configured to support the sheet whose image has been read. The illumination portion is disposed further on an outside than a sheet supporting region of the second supporting portion in a width direction perpendicular to a sheet discharge direction, configured to illuminate the second supporting portion, and provided such that a light emission direction of the illumination portion is directed to the sheet supporting region.

An image reading device includes a housing including a support that supports a document, an opening and closing (O/C) member supported to rotate around a rotary shaft between an open position at which a top surface of the support is exposed and a closed position at which the top surface is covered by the O/C member, a reading member included in the O/C member to read the document, a processing unit included in the housing to process information read by the reading member, a connecting member electrically connecting the reading member and the processing unit, and a protective member whose first end is rotatably supported by the O/C member and that accommodates the connecting member in its internal space while being supported in a state of hanging from the O/C member and in a state where its second end is supported while not being constrained with respect to the housing.

Image data is processed using a filter configured to compensate for degradation in an image that occurs when the image is printed by a printing unit. The degree of compensation for the degradation in the image by the filter depends on a printing direction on a printing medium by the printing unit.
