There is provided a highly efficient virtual image projection device in a small size that displays images of high luminance in which an illumination system is reduced in size with no degradation in an effective luminous light beam. A virtual image projection device that shows video to a human eye includes a virtual light source surface (116) that emits a light beam in a predetermined angular distribution, an image forming lens (117) that condenses the light beam from the virtual light source surface (116), and a display (120) that creates video. When the virtual light source surface (116) is disposed at a nearly focal position on the front side of the image forming lens (117), the display (120) is disposed at a nearly focal position on the rear side of the image forming lens.

A video display device 101 configured to display a video includes a video projection unit 200 configured to project video light, a video deflection unit 210, and a light guide portion 230. The video deflection unit 210 deflects video light emitted by the video projection unit 200 and causes the video light to propagate to the light guide portion 230, and the light guide portion 230 causes the entered video light to propagate therein and outputs the video light. Here, the video deflection unit 210 or the light guide portion 230 is configured to reduce color dispersion of the video light outputted from the light guide portion 230.

An imaging unit captures a second image, which is an image of the real space. A synthesizer generates a synthetic image by combining the first image and the second image by hardware processing based on the arrangement position. A display is directly connected to the synthesizer and displays the synthetic image.

Artificial window system

In general, the present disclosure is directed to an artificial window system that can simulate the user experience of a traditional window in environments where exterior walls are unavailable or other constraints make traditional windows impractical. In an embodiment, an artificial window consistent with the present disclosure includes a window panel, a panel driver, and a camera device. The camera device captures a plurality of image frames representative of an outdoor environment and provides the same to the panel driver. A controller of the panel driver sends the image frames as a video signal to cause the window panel to visually output the same. The window panel may further include light panels, and the controller may extract light characteristics from the captured plurality of image frames to send signals to the light panels to cause the light panels to mimic outdoor lighting conditions.

A sensor is configured on the display to sense a distance between a user and the screen. The distance may be used to determine a position of the user relative to the screen. An actuator is configured to adjust a curvature of the flexible screen based on the distance. Accordingly, the field of view of the user is improved.
