Modeless video and still frame capture
In an embodiment, an electronic device may be configured to capture still frames during video capture, but may capture the still frames in the 43 aspect ratio and at higher resolution than the 169 aspect ratio video frames. The device may interleave high resolution, 43 frames and lower resolution 169 frames in the video sequence, and may capture the nearest higher resolution, 43 frame when the user indicates the capture of a still frame. Alternatively, the device may display 169 frames in the video sequence, and then expand to 43 frames when a shutter button is pressed. The device may capture the still frame and return to the 169 video frames responsive to a release of the shutter button.

A reception apparatus is provided that comprises circuitry configured to transmit over a transmission path to a transmission apparatus information on a gamma correction method for image data that the reception apparatus is able to support. The reception apparatus further receives image video data for displaying an image over the transmission path from the transmission apparatus, the image video data transmitted in accordance with the gamma correction method supported by the reception apparatus; receives information on a gamma correction for the image video data over the transmission path from the transmission apparatus; and based on the information on the gamma correction that is received in the information reception unit, processes the HDR image data that is received in the data reception unit. The information on the gamma correction for the image video data includes an indication of the gamma correction method.
Video frame transport
In response to a video aspect ratio of a frame of video not matching an aspect ratio of a display panel of a display device, a source device of a processing system transmits only the frame to the display device and metadata indicating that the display device is to generate bars for letterboxing or pillarboxing. By generating the bars for letterboxing or pillarboxing at the display device instead of transmitting the bars from the source device to the display device or storing the bars at a frame buffer of the display device, the processing system conserves power and bandwidth.

A reception apparatus is provided that comprises circuitry configured to transmit over a transmission path to a transmission apparatus information on a gamma correction method for image data that the reception apparatus is able to support. The reception apparatus further receives image video data for displaying an image over the transmission path from the transmission apparatus, the image video data transmitted in accordance with the gamma correction method supported by the reception apparatus; receives information on a gamma correction for the image video data over the transmission path from the transmission apparatus; and based on the information on the gamma correction that is received in the information reception unit, processes the HDR image data that is received in the data reception unit. The information on the gamma correction for the image video data includes an indication of the gamma correction method.
