Method and system for operating a communication system encoded into multiple independently communicated encoding formats
A system and method for operating the same includes a receiving circuit module having a housing having an input for a first signal, a first encoder disposed within the housing encoding the first signal to form a first encoded signal and a second encoder disposed within the housing encoding the first signal to form a second encoded signal having a different format than the first signal. A first multiplexer receives the first encoded signal. A second multiplexer different than the first multiplexer receives the second encoded signal.
Tuner device
Disclosed is a tuner device including an input terminal, a separator, a first amplifier, a second amplifier, and a tuner. The input terminal receives an input of a reception signal of satellite digital broadcasts. The separator is connected to the input terminal and adapted to frequency-separate a first signal and a second signal. The first signal is in a low-frequency domain of the reception signal, and the second signal is in a high-frequency domain of the reception signal. The first and second amplifiers respectively amplify the first and second signals. The tuner receives an input of output signals from the first and second amplifiers.
Systems and methods for positioning a satellite uplink device
A computer-implemented method is provided in which a satellite uplink device is positioned to distribute an event. Data is collected from one or more automatic sensor device associated with the satellite uplink device. An optimal position of the satellite uplink device is calculated based on at least the data collected from the one or more sensor devices. The location of one or more satellites in orbit is determined and one or more satellites are selected as a preferred satellite. The satellite uplink device is automatically positioned in the calculated optimal position to connect with the preferred satellite without user intervention. However, a user at a remote location may communicate instructions to change the position the satellite uplink device. User instructions are converted into one or more actuator commands and are wirelessly transmitted to the satellite uplink device for changing its position.

Systems and methods for communicating events to users
Systems and methods for distributing an audio/visual feed of events include mixing audio signals, from microphones monitoring the event, with sound board feed from the event public address system, thereby forming a mixed audio signal. A video input signal is received at each video input in one or more video inputs at a video board from one or more corresponding cameras recording the event. A video input signal is selected as the video board output and is combined with the mixed audio signal thereby producing an audio/visual signal. This signal is encoded using a video codec, at each of several bitrates, and an audio codec, thereby forming bitrate streams each comprising the video portion of the audio/visual signal at a unique bitrate. The streams are received by a satellite router and transmitted to a satellite which sends them to one or more downlink servers for Internet distribution.
Method and apparatus for generating an overlay code for a set top box from an external device
A communication system 10 including a host device 14 in communication with an external device 40 through a pair of interfaces 48/50. The external device has an application code image module 42 therein. The host device 14 includes an application execution area 66 and a resource application programming interface (API) 60. The host device 14 stores the application code image in the application execution area 66. The application code image controls a function in the host device 14 using the resource application interface. When the function is performed, the application code image may be removed from the host device 14.
System and apparatus for enhancing delivery of media services
A system and apparatus for enhancing delivery of media services is disclosed. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, receiving a request for content information received during a presentation of a first multimedia program on equipment. The request is provided by a signal disassociated with a satellite signal to the equipment providing the multimedia satellite service. The content information is provided to a remote mobile device concurrent with the presentation of the first multimedia program at the equipment. A selection obtained from the mobile device is identified from among the content information provided to the mobile device, and the selection is provided to the equipment. Operation of a media processor of the equipment is directed based on the selection. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

Systems and methods for transponder stacking
Systems and methods are disclosed for enabling each wideband tuner of a television converter device such as a set-top box to receive transponders from any satellite location and provide a unique feed per television converter device (e.g., per set-top box) input, giving each television converter device tuner its own set of six, eight or more transponders. The capacity of transponder stacking in the digital domain is extended to a system and method to make use of wideband tuner/demodulators. Each television converter device has a single wideband tuner/demodulator for six, eight or more transponders with each transponder being from any of all possible satellite locations. Bandwidth to each television converter device is thereby usefully increased.
