REAL-TIME ADAPTIVE SHADOW AND HIGHLIGHT ENHANCEMENT

An “Adaptive Exposure Corrector” performs automated real-time exposure correction of individual images or image sequences of arbitrary length. “Exposure correction” is defined herein as automated adjustments or corrections to any combination of shadows, highlights, high-frequency features, and color saturation of images. The Adaptive Exposure Corrector outputs perceptually improved images based on image ISO and camera ISO capabilities in combination with camera noise characteristics via exposure corrections by a variety of noise-aware image processing functions. An initial calibration process adapts these noise aware image processing functions to noise characteristics of particular camera models and types in combination with particular camera ISO settings. More specifically, this calibration process precomputes a Noise Aware Scaling Function (NASF) and a Color Scalar Function (CSF). The NASF and CSF are then applied to adapt various image processing functions that are subsequently applied to perform real-time noise-aware exposure corrections on images as those images are being captured.

An electronic device includes a frequency analyzing circuit and a color difference calculating circuit. The frequency analyzing circuit receives an image signal including information about a subject, may convert the image signal into first color data which are based on a first color domain, converts the first color data into frequency data which are based on a frequency domain, and applies frequency weights corresponding to the frequency data to the first color data to generate processed color data. The color difference calculating circuit calculates color difference values for evaluating a color stain generated by the image signal, based on the processed color data. The frequency weights are selected based on sensitivity information of an observer according to a frequency change of the frequency data.

Systems, methods, devices and non-transitory, computer-readable storage mediums are disclosed for a wearable multimedia device and cloud computing platform with an application ecosystem for processing multimedia data captured by the wearable multimedia device. In an embodiment, a wearable multimedia device determines a projection area of a laser projector, the projection area having an inner region and a border region at least partially enclosing the inner region. Further, the device projects, using the laser projector, a virtual interface (VI) on a surface. In particular, the device determines, based on sensor data from a camera and/or a depth sensor, a position of the surface relative to the projection area. Further, the device projects the VI on the surface based on the position of the surface. Further, the device determines that a portion of the VI coincides with the border region, and in response, modifies a visual appearance of that portion.
