Aspects of the disclosure provide methods and an apparatus for video coding. The apparatus includes processing circuitry that decodes coding information of a current block (CB) from a coded video bitstream. The coding information indicates that the CB is coded with a subblock-based affine motion model including affine parameters that are based on multiple control point motion vectors (MVs) for the CB. The processing circuitry determines, based on the coding information, whether to select a subblock characteristic for generating a prediction for a sample in an affine subblock of the CB based on a corresponding subblock MV. In response to selecting the subblock characteristic, the processing circuitry determines the subblock characteristic based on at least one of the affine parameters. The subblock characteristic indicates one of: (i) a subblock size used for generating the prediction for the sample and (ii) an interpolation filter type for the affine subblock.

In some examples, an apparatus for video decoding includes processing circuitry that determines, from a coded video bitstream, a portion of a block is subject to a zero-out operation based on a threshold number of samples being less than a number of samples in one of a height dimension or a width dimension of the block. The processing circuitry determines whether a mixture of a lossless coding mode and one or more lossy coding modes is allowed in the coded video bitstream. The processing circuitry reconstructs the block based on the one or more lossy coding modes in response to (i) the mixture of the lossless coding mode and the one or more lossy coding modes being allowed in the coded video bitstream and (ii) the portion of the block being subject to the zero-out operation.

In a method, prediction information of a current block of a coding unit tree is generated. The prediction information indicates at least one block partitioning structure is allowed for the current block and a SBT mode is used for the current block. A partition direction and a partition size of the SBT mode for the current block is determined based on the at least one allowed block partitioning structure indicated in the prediction information and based on a comparison between at least one dimension of the current block and a first threshold. A partition of the current block based on the partition direction and the partition size of the SBT mode is different from at least one partition of the current block based on the at least one allowed block partitioning structure indicated in the prediction information.

Methods and apparatus for video coding are disclosed. According to one method, a bitstream is generated or received, where the bitstream includes a first syntax and a second syntax. The first syntax is related to a target number of bits used to represent a set of third syntaxes and each third syntax specifies one subpicture ID for one subpicture in a set of subpictures. The second syntax is related to a total number of subpictures in the set of subpicture, where a first number that can be represented by the target number of bits is equal to or greater than the total number of subpictures. According to another method, the subpicture ID syntaxes have different values for different subpictures.
