Three-dimensional displays using electromagnetic field computations

Methods, apparatus, devices, and systems for three-dimensional (3D) displaying objects are provided. In one aspect, a method includes obtaining data including respective primitive data for primitives corresponding to an object, determining an electromagnetic (EM) field contribution to each element of a display for each of the primitives by calculating an EM field propagation from the primitive to the element, generating a sum of the EM field contributions from the primitives for each of the elements, transmitting to each of the elements a respective control signal for modulating at least one property of the element based on the sum of the EM field contributions, and transmitting a timing control signal to an illuminator to activate the illuminator to illuminate light on the display, such that the light is caused by the modulated elements of the display to form a volumetric light field corresponding to the object.

Display module, head mounted display, and image stereoscopic display method and apparatus

Embodiments of this application disclose a display including a display screen, a liquid crystal lens layer, and a control module. The display screen comprises a plurality of pixel groups, each of which includes at least one pixel. The liquid crystal lens layer comprises a plurality of liquid crystal lens units, each pixel group being correspondingly disposed with a liquid crystal lens unit. The control module is configured to obtain virtual display depth information of to-be-displayed content of each pixel group. The control module is configured to control, when displaying the to-be-displayed content on a pixel group and according to the virtual display depth information, an electric field applied to a liquid crystal lens unit corresponding to the pixel group, to change a refractive index of the corresponding liquid crystal lens unit, and is configured to adjust a first virtual image of the content displayed by the pixel group.

A unique mobile device casing or cover integrated with a camera system & 3D/multiple video & still frame viewer is disclosed, which can record 2-Dimensional (2D) and 3-Dimensional (3D) video movies and still photographs and which can be used to view both 3-D video/still image, using an attachable/detachable 3D display system is disclosed herein. The unique display disclosed herein can be used to view both 3D and 2D video/still simultaneously. The camera may have zoom, tele-photo or microscopic capability by using a unique optical system disclosed herein. The Camera disclosed herein can be used in or with mobile devices for capturing self photos or self video commonly known as selfies, in 3 dimension (3D) and any photography or videography application. Furthermore, the 3D camera may be used with mobile phone/devices, tablets, ipad type devices by integrating the camera and 3D display sheet, on a mobile phone/device case, tablet case or the case of an ipad type device. The 3D display sheet converts the regular display of a mobile phone/device or television to a 3D display, which does not require to wear special glasses to view 3D. The 3D still photographs and 3D video movies can be viewed in a mobile device, for example, such as a mobile phone/device, tablet PC, tab, pad, etc, without using dedicated glasses, by using a suitable 3D display disclosed herein, which does not distort the 2D display capabilities, simultaneously enabling both 3D and 2D viewing.

Geometry matching in virtual reality and augmented reality

Methods, apparatus and systems for geometric matching of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) output contemporaneously with video output formatted for display on a 2D screen include a determination of value sets that when used in image processing cause an off-screen angular field of view of the at least one of the AR output object or the VR output object to have a fixed relationship to at least one of the angular field of view of the onscreen object or of the 2D screen. The AR/VR output object is outputted to an AR/VR display device and the user experience is improved by the geometric matching between objects observed on the AR/VR display device and corresponding objects appearing on the 2D screen.

Single display pipe multi-view frame composer method and apparatus
10904507 · 2021-01-26 · ·

A method and apparatus for providing multi-view composed frames uses a single display pipe mechanism. The single display pipe includes, in one example, a memory requestor that fetches multi-view data from a frame buffer using a plurality of viewports. The single display pipe may also include a multi-view packer. Each viewport of the single display pipe has access to a frame buffer holding multi-view frame data, and may be configured to have access to different areas of the frame buffer. In this fashion the single display pipe may fetch data representing more than one view of a multi-view frame. Additionally, the multi-view packer combines the data fetched from one or more of the viewports to form a multi-view frame to be supplied for display.
