Optical scanning of the sheet media is initiated in accordance with detecting the passage of leading edges of the sheet media. Electronic signals resulting from the scanning are automatically analyzed to detect trailing edges of overlapping sheet media. A user notification is issued if a multiple sheet pick event is detected. A user can resume scanning or copying of a multiple sheet document at the location where the multiple sheet pick occurred.

Described embodiments provide a method and user equipment for selectively transferring image data from user equipment to a coupled external device. The method may include determining whether user equipment is coupled to an external device, receiving selection inputs from a user for selecting at least one of applications installed in the user equipment when the user equipment is determined as being coupled to the external device, and selectively transferring image data produced in the user equipment based on the selected application. The method may further include controlling the coupled external device to display the transferred image data on a display unit of the coupled external device.

A system and method for aligning documents for scanning includes a multifunction peripheral with a controller having a processor and associated memory. The controller issues instructions controlling operation of a scanner. A tangible document is placed on a surface of a scanner platen, and a sensor determines its location relative to the platen. An optimal position of the document relative to the platen is determined. The processor then generates a graphical rendering on an associated display indicative of a directed repositioning of the document on the platen in accordance with a determined optimal position of the document relative to the platen.
