10694171 · 2020-06-23 ·

An infrared polarizing filter is attached to an infrared synchronization signal radiator of a stereoscopic image display device which alternately displays right and left images by time-division with polarized light in one direction to radiate the polarized-light infrared synchronization signal. The problem with the occurrence of crosstalk is solved. Stereoscopic image appreciation eyeglasses have polarizing plates, visual field opening/closing liquid crystal cells and tilt correcting liquid crystal cells. The synchronization signal is received by a receiver mounted on an eyeglass frame. The tilt correcting liquid crystal cells are adjusted by a voltage based on the eyeglass frame tilt angle detected.

Designs useful for switchable Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality (VR/AR/MR) devices, for combining real reality and simulated reality images, other display purposes, and more. Various methods are proposed to combine (or not) real reality with simulated reality through the use of some level of zooming, cloaking, and/or other techniques. This enables a switchable VR and AR/MR system that does not require transparent glasses or devices. Various systems and methods are presented, some that can be generalized to novel imaging and display techniques that have broad applications beyond VR, AR, MR and other fields.

More reliable monochromatic stereoscopic image projector
10666932 · 2020-05-26 · ·

The general field of the invention is that of monochromatic stereoscopic image projectors including two light sources that illuminate two imagers, the radiation of the two light sources having a spectral distribution centred on a central wavelength, the first imager and the second imager being connected to a generator of stereoscopic image pairs. The image projector includes a dichroic separating filter that transmits the portion of the spectrum below the central wavelength and that reflects the portion of the spectrum above this central wavelength. The first light source and the second light source are arranged symmetrically on either side of the dichroic separating filter. The image projector operates cyclically, each cycle including two alternations. Each alternation consists in changing the emission source and in switching to the two displays the left and right images emitted by the generator of image pairs.

Method and apparatus for viewing an image

It is provided a method for viewing an image that is wider or higher than the display screen, wherein, the image is evenly divided into two portions by using a line passing through centers of larger edges of the image compared to the display screen. The method comprises, at the side of shutter glasses, the steps of receiving a message indicating display of a first portion of the two portions; turning dark of the shutter glasses and turning refraction direction of the shutter glasses towards a first position; turning transparent of the shutter glasses; receiving a message indicating display of a second portion of the two portions; turning dark of the shutter glasses and turning refraction direction of the shutter glasses towards a second position; and turning transparent of the shutter glasses.

Method and apparatus for providing dropped picture image processing

A method and apparatus adaptively creates a dropped frame rate converted frame from a plurality of source frames using at least one alternate support frame in lieu of a neighboring source frame, in response to corrupted picture identification information. Stated another way, a frame rate converter, in response to corrupted picture indication information, replaces at least one corrupted source frame with a temporally modified frame created from at least one alternate source frame. The corrupted picture identification information indicates that a source frame, or segment thereof, includes at least one corrupted or dropped source frame (or segment thereof).

Three-dimentional display system based on division multiplexing of viewer's entrance-pupil and display method thereof
10652526 · 2020-05-12 · ·

The invention features techniques and systems for presenting two or more perspective views to each eye of the viewer, through division multiplexing of the viewer's entrance-pupil. The system is constituted by a selective-aperture array with each aperture being transparent only to light beams with some special characteristics, at least one display screen for optical information presentation, and other optional elements. The optical message on at least one display screen propagates to the selective-aperture array directly, or be directed to the selective-aperture array or the eye of the viewer by other optional elements. Through selective filtering by the apertures with temporal filtering characteristics or exclusive filtering characteristics, multiple perspective views get presented to an eye of the viewer through the selective-aperture array. Light rays different perspective views superimpose into real spatial light spots that the eye can focus on naturally, resulting in overcoming of the accommodation-convergence conflict.

Optical systems that can produce digitally switchable optical power, optical pathlength, or both. It can apply to reconfigurable wide-angle optical systems that are compact, light-weight, and light-efficient. Architectures that increase pathlength can utilize polarization splitters to produce an additional round-trip of one or more optical cavities. Changing the focus distance of synthetic imagery in augmented/virtual reality systems is an example of an application where the techniques taught herein are particularly well suited. Passive double-cavity systems can be used to increase the throughput and decrease the stray-light/ghosts in polarization-based compact wide-angle lenses.
