WOUND DRESSING
20180042789 · 2018-02-15 ·

The present invention relates to wound dressings which are particularly useful (but not necessarily exclusively) on moderate to heavily exuding wounds comprising: an absorbent pad having a first major face comprised of absorbent material and configured for wound contact, and a second major face opposed to the first major face; and a backing layer bonded to the second major face of the pad; wherein the pad and the backing layer are sized such that the backing layer extends beyond the periphery of the pad, thereby defining a margin; wherein the margin of the backing layer is provided with a first adhesive for adhering the backing layer to skin; and wherein a layer of second, low trauma adhesive is provided on, and in direct contact with, the first major face of the pad for adhering the pad to a wound, said layer of second, low trauma adhesive being configured to allow passage of exudate from the wound to the absorbent pad.

WOUND DRESSINGS, AND YARN USEFUL THEREIN
20180015197 · 2018-01-18 ·

Described herein are wound dressings, methods for their production and components for use therein. Described herein are a knitted structure including a blend of gelling fibres and non-gelling fibres wherein the yarn includes at least 50% w/w gelling fibres, a three-dimensional textile material including gelling fibres, and a yarn including a blend of gelling and non-gelling fibres which may be used in their production, the knitted structure and three-dimensional textile material being suitable for use as wound dressings or as components of composite wound dressings. The wound dressings may be adapted for use in negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). It has been found that the incorporation of gel-forming fibres provides a material which has a high absorbency, enabling good transfer of exudates away from a wound, which retains structural integrity, and which is non-adherent and easily removed from the wound.

NOVEL RAPID-DEPOSITION THIN-FILM FORMING COMPOSITIONS AS EFFECTIVE WOUND CARE TREATMENT
20180000858 · 2018-01-04 ·

The present invention provides thin-film forming compositions comprising an antiseptic (e.g., povidone iodine, chlorhexidine, or octenidine), a non-aqueous solvent, and a film-forming material dissolved in the non-aqueous solvent, wherein the composition yields a continuous and flexible protective film upon substantial removal of the solvent. The compositions are useful for the treatment and prevention of infections in wounds, ulcers (e.g., decubitus ulcers and stasis ulcers), cuts, or burns, or against infections from bacterial, mycobacterial, viral, fungal, or amoeba causes, as well as for prevention of such infections in appropriate clinical settings (e.g., as liquid bandages or dressings). Additionally, the compositions of this invention are also useful for the treatment of infections and as a disinfectant skin preparation for pre- and/or post-surgical operations.

ANTIMICROBIAL COATING EXTENDING PERFORMANCE OF NEEDLELESS CONNECTOR

A needleless access connector having an access port and a sustained release antimicrobial coating only on a top surface of the access port is disclosed. The top surface of the access port can be defined by a top surface of a proximal end of a housing and a top surface of a head portion of a compressible valve disposed within an internal cavity of the housing. In certain embodiments of the present disclosure, the sustained release antimicrobial coating is on: (i) the top surface the proximal end of the housing, or (ii) the top surface of the head portion of the compressible valve, or (iii) the sustained release antimicrobial coating is only on both the top surface the proximal end of the housing and the top surface of the head portion of the compressible valve.

ANTIMICROBIAL COATINGS FOR MEDICAL DEVICES

Antimicrobial formulations and coatings for medical devices and processes therefor are disclosed. The formulations include at least one water permeable polymer with at least one antimicrobial agent in a liquid medium and are prepared by wet milling the components and can form antimicrobial coatings having uniformly dispersed particles having an average size of no greater than 50 microns.

Controlled release of a hydrophilic agent from a coated surface

The present invention is an implantable medical device comprising (i) a base coat layer having an inner and outer surface, the inner surface of the base coat layer contacting the implantable medical device; (ii) a top-coat layer of a hydrophilic polymer chemically crosslinked and covalently bonded to the outer surface of the base coat layer, the hydrophilic polymer comprising an anionic polyelectrolyte; and (iii) an amount of a hydrophilic cationic drug agent added to the top-coat layer sufficient to provide an effective dosage of the drug agent for delivery to a patient, whereby the hydrophilic cationic drug agent is initially adsorbed into the anionic polyelectrolyte of the top-coat layer and the hydrophilic cationic drug agent having a release rate after the medical device is implanted within a patient's body.
