EARDRUM ACOUSTIC PRESSURE ESTIMATION USING FEEDBACK CANCELLER

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for eardrum acoustic pressure estimation for hearing device applications. A receiver signal is produced through a receiver of a hearing device, or a physical extension of the receiver, placed inside an ear canal of a user. A microphone signal is sensed, in response to the receiver signal, using a microphone placed outside the ear canal. Based on the receiver signal and the microphone signal, a reliability signal of the microphone signal and a feedback-path signal are computed. A spectral representation signal of the feedback-path signal is computed, and a real-ear response signal is computed using a mathematical combination of the spectral-representation signal and the reliability signal. The computed real-ear response signal is used to modify an operational characteristic of the hearing device, or to make a recommendation for modification of an operational characteristic or a physical characteristic of the hearing device.

Audio beamforming systems and methods that enable more precise control of lobes and nulls of an array microphone are provided. Optimized beamformer coefficients can be generated to result in beamformed signals associated with one or more lobes steered towards one or more desired sound locations and one or more nulls steered towards one or more undesired sound location. The performance of acoustic echo cancellation can be improved and enhanced.

Sound masking system

A sound masking system according to the invention is disclosed in which one or more sound masking loudspeaker assemblies are coupled to one or more electronic sound masking signal generators. The loudspeaker assemblies in the system of the invention have a low directivity index and preferably emit an acoustic sound masking signal that has a sound masking spectrum specifically designed to provide superior sound masking in an open plan office. Each of the plurality of loudspeaker assemblies is oriented to provide the acoustic sound masking signal in a direct path into the predetermined area in which masking sound is needed. In addition, the sound masking system of the invention can include a remote control function by which a user can select from a plurality of stored sets of information for providing from a recipient loudspeaker assembly an acoustic sound masking signal having a-selected sound masking spectrum.

VOICE REINFORCEMENT IN MULTIPLE SOUND ZONE ENVIRONMENTS

Microphone signal is received from at least one microphone. AEC produces an echo cancelled microphone signal using first adaptive filters to estimate and cancel feedback that is a result of the environment. AFC produces a processed microphone signal using second adaptive filters to estimate and cancel feedback resulting from application of the reinforced voice signal within the environment. The uttered speech is reinforced in the processed microphone signal to produce the reinforced voice signal. The reinforced voice signal and the audio signal is applied to the loudspeakers. A step size of adjustment of the second adaptive filters may be increased responsive to detection of reverberation in the microphone signal. The reverberation that is used to control the step size of the second adaptive filters may be added artificially. This may provide multiple benefits including improving adjustment of the second adaptive filters and also improving the sound impression of the voice.
