Fluid line autoconnect apparatus and methods for medical treatment system
A medical infusion fluid handling system, such as an automated peritoneal dialysis system, may be arranged to de-cap and connect one or more lines (such as solution lines) with one or more spikes or other connection ports on a fluid handling cassette. This feature may reduce a likelihood of contamination since no human interaction is required to de-cap and connect the one or more lines and the one or more spikes. For example, the automated peritoneal dialysis system may include a carriage arranged to receive the one or more lines each having a connector end and a cap. The carriage may move along a first direction so as to move the connector ends of the one or more lines along the first direction, and a cap stripper may be arranged to engage with the caps on the the one or more lines on the carriage. The cap stripper may move in a second direction transverse to the first direction, as well as to move with the carriage along the first direction.
Apparatus for extracorporeal blood treatment and method for operating an extracorporeal blood treatment apparatus
A device for extracorporeal blood treatment and a method for operating an extracorporeal blood treatment device provide for an ultrafiltrate pump of an ultrafiltration apparatus to be operated in a first and second operating mode. The ultrafiltrate pump is operated in the first operating mode in such a way that the pressure on the blood-side of the semipermeable membrane is higher than the pressure on the dialysate-side of the semipermeable membrane of a dialyser, so that during the first operating mode a predetermined amount of fluid is removed from an extracorporeal blood circuit via the semipermeable membrane of the dialyser. In the second operating mode, the ultrafiltrate pump is operated in such a way that the pressure on the blood-side of the semipermeable membrane is, at successive intervals, alternately higher and lower than the pressure on the dialysate-side of the semipermeable membrane of the dialyser, so that fluid is continuously removed from and supplied to the extracorporeal blood circuit via the semipermeable membrane (push/pull mode). Additional components, in particular a separate push/pull pump, are not required for operation of the blood treatment device in push/pull mode. This results in both lower dimensions and lower weight. Operation in push/pull mode can increase the service life of the dialyser and the clearance of the dialysis treatment can also be increased for certain substances.
Adjusting sound on a medical device
A dialysis machine comprising: a microphone; an alert module for producing an audible alert related to an operating condition of the dialysis machine; and a processing module configured for: receiving, from the microphone, information related to measured noise; determining, based on the information related to measured noise, an audible alert that will not be masked by the measured noise when the audible alert is produced by the alert module; and providing, to the alert module, instructions for producing the audible alert.
CUSTOMIZED DIALYSATE SOLUTION USING SPIKES
Systems and methods of generating a customized dialysate solution are provided. The system and methods use stock concentrates, with the addition of spikes to generate a customized dialysate solution based on the needs of the patient.
Methods and Systems for Detecting an Occlusion in a Blood Circuit of a Dialysis System
The present specification describes systems and methods for detecting an occlusion in a tubing carrying a patient's blood through a manifold and into a dialyzer in a dialysis system. A controller measures pressures value of the blood at a predetermined point after exiting the manifold and before entering the dialyzer, calculates a historical running average, calculates a weighted sum of the most recent pressure values, and determines whether to trigger an occlusion alarm based on a function of the historical running average and the weighted sum of the most recent pressure values.
Device and method for monitoring the connection of a blood treatment unit to the fluid system of an extracorporeal blood treatment apparatus
A device and method for monitoring the connection of a blood treatment unit to a fluid system of an extracorporeal blood treatment apparatus are described, in which the blood treatment unit includes an inlet and an outlet for connection to the fluid system and the fluid system includes a line system with a first line segment connected to the inlet and a second line segment connected to the outlet. An extracorporeal blood treatment apparatus includes a device for monitoring the connection of the blood treatment unit to the fluid system. The device and method for monitoring the connection of the blood treatment unit to the fluid system is based on measurement of pressure in the fluid system of the blood treatment apparatus. Solely on the basis of the pressure measurement, it is ascertained whether the connection of the blood treatment unit to the fluid system is correct or incorrect.
EXTRACORPOREAL BLOOD TREATMENT DEVICE
The present invention pertains to an extracorporeal blood treatment device (1), preferably a hemodialysis device, hemofiltration device, or hemodiafiltration device, comprising a fluidic system (2) having a connection point (20) for adding substances, a detection arrangement (4) for detecting a flow of a substance at the connection point (20), wherein the detection arrangement is configured to generate a flow signal, when a flow of a substance is detected at the connection point (20), and a control unit (5), which is communicatively connected to the detection arrangement (4). The control unit (5) is furthermore configured to output a signal (50) in reaction to a received flow signal. The present invention furthermore pertains to a corresponding method for monitoring at least one connection point.
Biomimetically Designed Modular Microfluidic-Based Capillaries & Lymphatic Units for Kidney & Liver Dialysis Systems, Organ Bio-Reactors and Bio-Artificial Organ Support Systems
A technology that provides various modular biomimetic microfluidic modules emulating varieties of microvasculature in body. These microfluidic-base capillaries and lymphatic Technology modules are constructed as multilayered-microfluidic microchannels of various shapes, and aspect ratios using diverse biocompatible microfluidic polymers. Then, various semipermeable membranes are sandwiched in between these multilayered microfluidic microchannels. These membranes have different chemical, physical characteristics and MWCO values. Consequently, this design will produce much smaller dimension channels similar to human vasculature to achieve biomimetic properties like of human organs and tissues. By interchanging microfluidic-layers or the membranes various diverse modules are designed that act as building blocks for constructing various medical devices, various forms of dialysis devices including albumin and lipid dialysis, water purification, bioreactors, bio-artificial organ support systems. Connecting various modules in diverse combinations, permutations, in parallel and/or in series to ultimately design many unrelated medical devices such as dialysis, bioreactors and organ support devices.
HEMODIALYSIS ENHANCEMENT APPARATUS & METHOD
A hemodialysis enhancement apparatus involves a bladder having elastically deformable surface that forms a variable volume therewithin. The elastically deformable surface has a smooth interior surface such that blood cannot collect to form a blood clot. The hemodialysis enhancement apparatus further includes a rigid housing having a wall surrounding the bladder and defining a housing volume such that a) when the variable volume chamber has a volume equal to the first volume, most of the elastically deformable surface will be spaced apart from the wall, and b) when the variable volume chamber has a volume equal to the second volume, a substantial portion of the elastically deformable surface will abut the wall. A method performed within a hemodialysis system involves, during an initial phase, withdrawing a volume of a patient's blood into a hemodialysis enhancer, and during a subsequent phase, translocating the patient's blood back into the patient's circulation.
