Method and apparatus for objective assessment of in-ear device acoustical performance

A method and apparatus for objectively assessing acoustical performance of an in-ear device having a passageway extending there through use a dual microphone probe that removably engages the passageway. The acoustical performance of the in-ear device is performed with the in-ear device inserted into the ear canal of the user and a reference sound source. A clip holding the probe in an acoustic near field of the sound source permits real time calibration thereof. The method and apparatus allow on-site and in-situ measurement of a predicted personal attenuation rating of the device, a subject-fit re-insertion test, an acoustic seal test, a rating test, a stability and reliability test, as well as a protection test of the device with an assessment of a filtered predicted exposure level at the ear for a specific noise exposure level. The apparatus may be simply housed along with the sound source for in-field evaluation tests.

A method performed by a headset that includes a speaker and an in-ear microphone, the method includes performing a calibration on the headset to obtain a baseline measurement; using, while the headset is being worn by a user, an audio signal to drive the speaker that is arranged to project sound into a canal of a user's ear; capturing as a microphone signal, from the in-ear microphone of the headset, sound from within the canal of the user's ear; determining a parameter associated with the user's ear based at least on the captured microphone signal and the baseline measurement; and transmitting a notification related to one or more characteristics of one or more hearing elements of the user's ear based on the parameter.

Cognitive benefit measure related to hearing-assistance device use

A computing system comprising one or more electronic computing devices receives data from a hearing-assistance device. The computing system determines, based on the data received from the hearing-assistance device, a cognitive benefit measure for a wearer of the hearing-assistance device. The cognitive benefit measure being an indication of a change of a cognitive benefit of the wearer of the hearing-assistance device attributable to use of the hearing-assistance device by the wearer of the hearing-assistance device. The computing device outputs an indication of the cognitive benefit measure.

In accordance with some embodiments, systems, methods and media for automatically determining audio gain profiles for fitting personal audio output devices are provided. In some embodiments, a method for automatically determining audio gain profiles comprises: determining hearing thresholds; determining gain profiles based on the hearing thresholds generating augmented audio signals using the gain profiles; causing the augmented audio signals to be presented using a speaker of an output device; receiving a rating associated with each gain profile; determining fitness values based on the ratings; generating a new generation of gain profiles based on the fitness values, each gain profile comprising bits representing the set of gain values; augmenting the new generation of gain profiles by exchanging a string of bits from a first gain profile with a corresponding string of bits from a second gain profile; and outputting a final gain profile to the output device.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CUSTOMIZING AUDITORY DEVICES

Systems and methods are provided for customizing an auditory prosthesis or other medical device. Customizing the auditory prosthesis includes obtaining and evaluating system data. The system data includes data from multiple sensors, including one or more sensors of an auditory prosthesis and one or more sensors of a recipient computing device. Based on the evaluation of the system data, a target behavior is determined, such as operating the auditory prosthesis in a particular sonic environment or with particular auditory prosthesis settings.

A hearing normalization and correction system and process provides accurate correction for users with mild to moderate hearing loss by using actual measured hearing response at multiple sound pressure levels. User measured hearing data is collected at considerably higher resolution and accuracy at multiple sound pressure levels and is automatically converted to multiple accurate correction responses. Dynamic adaptive cross-fade response correction is used to deliver hearing normalization at varying sound pressure levels. Adaptive release response allows the hearing normalization system to accurately track the envelope of the incoming audio signal providing greatly enhanced accuracy and transparency. Adaptive headroom control is also applied to increase both input and output headroom providing professional dynamic range performance. The hearing normalization and correction system delivers audio fidelity and performance transcending that of normal hearing aid technology.

METHOD FOR OPERATING A HEARING AID SYSTEM, AND HEARING AID SYSTEM WITH A HEARING AID

A hearing aid system has comprises a hearing aid with at least one input transducer, an output transducer, and a movement sensor. An actual movement of the hearing aid system user is detected as movement sensor data of the movement sensor and/or as movement sound data of the input transducer. An actual movement pattern for the actual movement is determined based on the movement sensor data and/or the movement sound data. The actual movement pattern is compared with a target movement pattern and, depending on the outcome of the comparison, an audio signal is generated at a perceptible signal level to supports the hearing aid system user in the execution of the actual movement. The movement sounds detected by the input transducer are used as the audio signal.
