In an embodiment, the audio environment is sampled, and a neural network determines suggested filter setting for the cochlear implant. The process is repeated such that, as the user moves through various audio environments having differing noise levels, satisfactory performance of the cochlear implant is maintained for the user.

Systems and methods for customizing auditory devices

Systems and methods are provided for customizing an auditory prosthesis or other medical device. Customizing the auditory prosthesis includes obtaining and evaluating system data. The system data includes data from multiple sensors, including one or more sensors of an auditory prosthesis and one or more sensors of a recipient computing device. Based on the evaluation of the system data, a target behavior is determined, such as operating the auditory prosthesis in a particular sonic environment or with particular auditory prosthesis settings.

SNR PROFILE ADAPTIVE HEARING ASSISTANCE ATTENUATION

To address the technical problem of varying gain applied to different hearing impaired (HI) patients, a technical solution described herein includes application of a patient-specific noise reduction algorithm based on a patient-specific signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss function. HI patients vary in their ability to extract information in a given signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment. However, noise reduction algorithms often include a single noise reduction function for all SNR loss functions. For a HI patient with significant SNR-loss, they will receive little noise reduction in SNR conditions where the patient gains no benefit from the sound. Technical solutions described herein includes determining a HI patient's ability to extract information for various SNR values, and then using specific NR algorithm attenuation for specific SNR values according to the HI patient's determined ability to extract information.

The present application discloses systems and methods for determining one or more configuration settings for a first hearing prosthesis based on configuration data associated with a second hearing prosthesis. In some embodiments, determining the one or more configuration settings for the first hearing prosthesis may include determining an acoustic operating range associated with the first hearing prosthesis based on whether a configured gain at one or more frequencies for the second hearing prosthesis meets or exceeds a target gain at the one or more frequencies. Some embodiments may also include storing the determined configuration settings in a tangible computer readable memory associated with the first hearing prosthesis.

Method and apparatus for objective assessment of in-ear device acoustical performance

A method and apparatus for objectively assessing acoustical performance of an in-ear device having a passageway extending there through use a dual microphone probe that removably engages the passageway. The acoustical performance of the in-ear device is performed with the in-ear device inserted into the ear canal of the user and a reference sound source. A clip holding the probe in an acoustic near field of the sound source permits real time calibration thereof. The method and apparatus allow on-site and in-situ measurement of a predicted personal attenuation rating of the device, a subject-fit re-insertion test, an acoustic seal test, a rating test, a stability and reliability test, as well as a protection test of the device with an assessment of a filtered predicted exposure level at the ear for a specific noise exposure level. The apparatus may be simply housed along with the sound source for in-field evaluation tests.
