EXTRACORPOREAL MEMBRANE OXYGENATION APPARATUSES AND METHODS OF THEIR PREPARATION AND USE

The present disclosure provides extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) apparatuses treated to comprise lubricating liquid surfaces, hydrophobic or omniphobic surfaces, and/or fluid and solid repellant slippery surfaces that do not stimulate clotting and thrombus formation to the same degree as do the untreated surfaces. The apparatuses permit ECMO procedures to be conducted using less anticoagulant and/or antiplatelet medications than is possible with untreated apparatuses. Also described are methods of using the treated apparatuses to accomplish ECMO procedures on subjects (e.g., human patients) and upon perfused organs.

Removable pressure sensor and extracorporeal circulator provided with removable pressure sensor

A removable pressure sensor assembly senses a pressure in an elastically deformable tube conveying blood in an extracorporeal circulator. The assembly includes a main body portion 31 and a pressure measurement element 40 disposed in main body portion 31. Main body portion 31 has a base portion 32 with a tube mounting recessed portion 34 such that an intermediate part of a tube 11 is removably fitted such that tube 11 is elastically deformed. Pressure measurement element 40 is exposed to tube 11 so that it measures a pressure of blood inside tube 11. A lid portion 33 holds tube 11 inside tube mounting recessed portion 34 by selectably closing recessed portion 34 of the base portion. Tube mounting recessed portion 34 has a rectangular cross section, and a width L of the rectangular cross section is set to be smaller than an external dimension D of tube 11.

A device for extracorporeal blood treatment, in particular a dialysis device, including an internal fluidic system for a treatment liquid, in particular for a dialysis liquid, the internal fluidic system having at least two liquid connectors for connecting a substantially cylindrical filter element, in particular a dialyzer, to the internal fluidic system for passing a treatment liquid through the filter element, and including a mounting for exchangeably holding the filter element in such a way that the filter element can be connected to the liquid connectors of the internal fluidic system and to an extracorporeal blood line in an intended manner, wherein the mounting for holding the filter element is designed in such a way that a cylinder longitudinal axis of the filter element is substantially horizontally aligned.

Dialysis machine and ultrafiltration
10881775 · 2021-01-05 · ·

The invention relates to a dialysis machine capable of performing ultrafiltration without the need for a dedicated ultrafiltration pump. The system uses a pair of membrane flow balance pumps wherein the operation and/or the volume flow rate of the pumps can be modified during operation to bring about a net movement of dialysate either into or from the dialyser. The direction of flow of the dialysate in the dialyzer is reversible and the dialyzer can comprise two dialysate inlets, one at each end, and two dialysate outlets, one at each end.

Blood processing apparatus and method for detoxifying bacterial lipopolysaccharide
10881781 · 2021-01-05 · ·

A detoxification method includes the steps of inducing flow of patient blood through an extracorporeal device inlet and outlet in fluid connection to the circulatory system of a patient. Biological agents including lipopolysaccharide (LPS) contained within patient blood can be detoxified by passing patient blood over a biochemical reactor surface having attached or immobilized Saccharomyces boulardii alkaline phosphatase enzyme, with the biochemical reactor being contained within the extracorporeal device.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR REGENERATING A DIALYSIS SOLUTION

The present invention relates to an apparatus for regenerating a dialysis solution, wherein the apparatus has a first circuit and a second circuit, with the first circuit having a container for receiving the consumed dialysis solution, the primary side of a filter connected downstream of the container, and a return line from the primary side of the filter into the container, with the filter being configured to prepare purified water from the consumed dialysis solution, and with the second circuit having the secondary side of the filter, the dialyzate side of a dialyzer, and a return line from the dialyzate side of the dialyzer into the container. The present invention further relates to a method of regenerating a dialysis solution.

Infusate caddy for a dialysis system

The invention relates to an infusate caddy for carrying, organizing, and operating infusate containers containing solutes for preparing dialysate and related fluids for use in dialysis. The infusate containers can be seated in the infusate caddy, and the infusate containers removed from the infusate caddy for restocking, cleaning, or resupply, as needed. The infusate caddy can be positioned or seated in a receiving compartment of a dialysis machine, and can also be removed, as needed, from the dialysis machine.
