PATIENT LINE CHECK AND OCCLUSION DETECTION FOR A DIALYSIS MACHINE USING ADJUSTED PUMP OPERATING PARAMETERS
A dialysis machine (e.g., a peritoneal dialysis (PD) machine) can include a patient line that provides dialysate solution to a patient and removes effluent dialysate from the patient through a catheter. During a drain phase of a PD treatment, an occlusion can occur at different locations in the patient line and/or catheter. A pressure sensor can detect a change in pressure of the fluid at the proximal end of the patient line to infer a potential occlusion in the patient line. Prior to setting an alarm to alert the patient of the blockage in the patient line, operating parameters of the PD machine can be changed to attempt to correct the issue. In an embodiment, the pump mechanism can be cycled at a reduced speed or a reduced rate in order to confirm the occlusion or attempt to alleviate the low fluid flow condition before the alarm is set.
Flexible impeller pumps and disposable fluid flow circuits incorporating such pumps
A disposable fluid pump is provided with a housing including first and second faces, with a sidewall extending between the first and second faces. The housing defines a chamber, with an inlet and an outlet in fluid communication with the chamber. An impeller is rotatably mounted within the chamber and includes a plurality of flexible vanes. Such a pump may be incorporated into a disposable fluid flow circuit that is adapted to be mounted on a durable hardware for processing a fluid. In such a fluid flow circuit, the fluid pump may be integrated into a cassette of the circuit or, alternatively, the inlet and outlet of the fluid pump may be directly connected to fluid flow conduits of the circuit.
APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING PERITONEAL DIALYSIS
The present invention relates to an apparatus for performing peritoneal dialysis, the apparatus comprising means for delivering dialysis fluid to the peritoneal cavity of a patient, a measurement device for measuring the fluid pressure of the delivered dialysis fluid and/or the fluid pressure in the peritoneal cavity, i.e. the intraperitoneal pressure and/or any pressure related thereto, and a control unit operably connected to said means and the measurement device, wherein the control unit is configured to effect an inflow or outflow phase encompassing a series of fill-and-measurement or drain-and-measurement steps, each step comprising delivering a predetermined quantity of dialysis fluid to the peritoneal cavity or draining a predetermined quantity of dialysis fluid from the peritoneal cavity and subsequently measuring and recording a pressure value.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING PERITONEAL ULTRAFILTRATION
Method and apparatus for ultrafiltration of a patient being overhydrated due to congestive heart failure, comprising a cassette having four inlets/outlets. A patient tube is connected to a patient connector, intended to be connected to a patient line for access to a peritoneal cavity of the patient. The patient tube comprises a flow pump for addition and removal of a peritoneal fluid between the cassette and the peritoneal cavity. The fluid is introduced into an intermittent bag controlled by an intermittent valve and then returned the same way back to the peritoneal cavity. Glucose is metered into the fluid entering the peritoneal cavity by means of a glucose pump. Glucose is replenished continuously or intermittently for keeping a concentration of the osmotic agent substantially constant in the peritoneal cavity. After treatment, the peritoneal fluid is drained to a drain bag, wherein the drain tube comprises a drain valve and an albumin filter.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRENDING AUTOMATED PERITONEAL DIALYSIS TREATMENTS
A system for performing a peritoneal dialysis therapy includes at least one dialysis fluid pump, and a logic implementer operable with the at least one dialysis fluid pump to perform a plurality of peritoneal dialysis cycles for a patient. The logic implementer transmits an amount of dialysis fluid provided during the plurality of peritoneal dialysis cycles. A server receives the amount of dialysis fluid provided during the plurality of peritoneal dialysis cycles and determines an amount of ultrafiltration (UF) removed from the patient based on the amount of dialysis fluid provided by the at least one dialysis fluid pump. The server also updates a UF trend using previous amounts of UF removed from the patient and the amount of UF removed from the patient during the most recent dialysis treatment and generates an alert if the UF trend changes by more than a preset percentage.
