Low-cost, robust, and high performance microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) acoustic sensors are described. Described MEMS acoustic sensors can comprise a set of etch release structures in the acoustic sensor membrane that facilitates rapid and/or uniform etch release of the acoustic sensor membrane. In addition, MEMS acoustic sensors can comprise a set of membrane position control structures of the acoustic sensor membrane that can reduce the bending stress of the acoustic sensor membrane. MEMS acoustic sensors can further comprise a three layer acoustic sensor membrane that provides increased robustness. Further design flexibility and improvements are described that provide increased robustness and/or cost savings, and a low cost fabrication process for MEMS acoustic sensors is provided.

The present disclosure discloses a silica gel vibrating diaphragm and a method for fabricating the same. The method comprises: forming a composite material belt by using two layers of a base material and liquid silica gel in a calendering manner, wherein the liquid silica gel is between the two layers of the base material; wholly hot-press molding the composite material belt by a vibrating diaphragm die holder, a temperature of the hot-press molding being higher than a vulcanization temperature of the liquid silica gel; removing the two layers of the base material to obtain a whole sheet of silica gel vibrating diaphragm; and blanking the whole sheet of silica gel vibrating diaphragm that has been removed of the two layers of the base material to fabricate a required silica gel vibrating diaphragm. As compared with conventional solutions, the technical solution of the present disclosure has the advantages of simple molding manner, low cost, various styles of the vibrating diaphragm, and small thickness of the vibrating diaphragm.

AN ACOUSTIC APPARATUS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS

An apparatus comprising a piezoelectric diaphragm positioned between opposing first and second electrodes, the piezoelectric diaphragm comprising a stack of graphene oxide layers between respective electrode-engaging layers of reduced graphene oxide, wherein the apparatus is configured to have one or more of a sound output mode and a sound input mode such that: in the sound output mode, the first and second electrodes are configured to apply a voltage to the reduced graphene oxide layers to generate an electric field across the graphene oxide stack, the generated electric field causing vibration of the piezoelectric diaphragm to produce a sound output wave corresponding to the applied voltage, and in the sound input mode, the reduced graphene oxide layers are configured to collect electrical charge which is induced in the graphene oxide layers by vibration of the piezoelectric diaphragm in response to a sound input wave, the collected electrical charge creating a voltage between the first and second electrodes corresponding to the sound input wave.
