Speaker emulation of a microphone for wind detection

A method for detecting wind using a microphone and a speaker of an electronic device. The method obtains a microphone signal produced by the microphone. The method obtains a speaker input signal produced by the speaker that is emulating a microphone capturing ambient sound in an environment through the speaker. The method determines a coherence between the microphone signal and the speaker input signal and determines whether the coherence is below a coherence intensity threshold. In response to determining that the coherence is below the coherence intensity threshold, the method determines a presence of wind in the environment.

Audio Output as Half Duplex Biometric Detection Device

An improved method and apparatus for detecting and measuring one or more biometric parameters of a user using a computing device in conjunction with an electroacoustic (audio) transducer is described. A first mode in which the audio transducer produces sound is disabled, and the device is placed in a second mode of operation in which a biometric signal is recovered from the transducer using a “back” audio signal. The biometric signal may then be measured or analyzed. The first mode is disabled by temporarily creating a high impedance between circuitry producing the audio signal and the transducer, while the biometric parameter is measured. This allows for detection of the biometric event without the need for significant additional components or circuitry. The computing device may most conveniently be a smartphone, but the approach described herein may also be easily and usefully applied to tablets, laptop or desktop computers or other devices.

The present disclosure relates to a method for simultaneously operating a loudspeaker assembly in a loudspeaker function and in a microphone function. The loudspeaker assembly comprises a coil, which is movably mounted in the magnetic field of a magnet, and a diaphragm, which is mechanically coupled to the coil, wherein the magnet produces a magnetic flux density (B), the coil, has an effective length in the magnetic field, and the diaphragm has an area (A). In order to determine a first transfer function Z.sub.M, a first calibration state is set, in which an external sound pressure (p) on the diaphragm is equal to zero. In order to determine a second transfer function Z.sub.C, a second calibration state is set, in which movement of the diaphragm is suppressed. Subsequently, in normal operation the current (I) flowing through the coil and the voltage (U) dropping across the coil are measured and the external sound pressure (p) on the diaphragm is determined using the magnetic flux density (B), the effective length of the coil in the magnetic field of the magnet, the first transfer function, the second transfer function, the area (A) of the diaphragm, the current (I) measured by the measuring device in normal operation, and the voltage (U) measured by the measuring device in normal operation. The present disclosure further relates to a corresponding loudspeaker assembly.
