Self-Calibrating Multiple Low Frequency Speaker System

Embodiments are directed to a speaker system that contains multiple low frequency speakers distributed within a room. Each speaker has at least one driver capable of adequate bass response and an integrated microphone and on-board power and digital signal processing capability. The system has a central sound processor that performs a measurement and calibration process for all of the speakers in the room by receiving test signals from the speakers, measuring certain audio characteristics, deriving audio processing coefficients to smooth the bass response, and transmitting the respective coefficients to each speaker for application to the input audio signals for playback.

Systems and methods for adjusting bass levels of a multi-channel audio signal include, among other features, (i) receiving the multi-channel signal via a playback device; (ii) separating, from the multi-channel signal, low-frequency signals comprising frequencies less than a threshold frequency; (iii) determining electrical energies of the low-frequency signals; (iv) determining a first energy by summing the electrical energies of the low-frequency signals; (v) consolidating the low-frequency signals into a consolidated low-frequency signal; (vi) determining a second energy by determining an electrical energy of the consolidated low-frequency signal; (vii) generating a gain-adjusted low-frequency signal by adjusting a gain of the consolidated low-frequency signal based on both (a) the first energy and (b) the second energy; (viii) generating a gain-adjusted multi-channel signal by mixing the gain-adjusted low-frequency signal back into the multi-channel signal; and (ix) using the gain-adjusted multi-channel signal to play back gain-adjusted multi-channel audio content via the playback device.

Bass management for object-based audio

A bass management system and method for mitigating bass management errors by using explicit information available in the object audio rendering process and deriving the correct subwoofer contribution for each audio object. Embodiments of the bass management system and method are used to maintain the correct balance of the bass reproduced by the subwoofer relative to the sound coming out of the other speakers. The system and method are useful for a variety of different speaker configurations, including speaker configurations having different speaker sub-zones. Power-normalized gain coefficients for each speaker are combined and the power of the combined gain coefficients is computed and used to obtain a power-preserving subwoofer contribution coefficient. This subwoofer contribution coefficient is applied to the bass portion of the audio signal and audio objects to determine the contribution of a particular subwoofer.

MULTICHANNEL AUDIO SIGNAL PROCESSING METHOD AND DEVICE

Disclosed are a multi-channel audio signal processing method and a multi-channel audio signal processing apparatus. The multi-channel audio signal processing method may generate N channel output signals from N/2 channel downmix signals based on an NN/2N structure.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IMPROVED ACOUSTO-HAPTIC SPEAKERS

The systems and methods described herein relate to, among other things, a transducer capable of producing acoustic and tactile stimulation. The transducer includes a rigid mass element disposed on the diaphragm of a speaker. The mass element may optionally be removable and may have a mass selected such that the resonant frequency of the transducer falls within the range of frequencies present in an input electrical audio signal. The systems and methods advantageously benefits from both the fidelity and audio performance of a full-range speaker while simultaneously producing high-fidelity, adjustable and palpable haptic vibrations.

A system is provided herein that includes a hub and one or more speakers in communication with the hub and configured to transmit one or more filter parameters to the hub. The hub is configured to filter audio that is output to each respective speaker using the one or more filter parameters. A speaker selector module is configured to allow a user to select a slot based on a position of each respective speaker. The hub is operable to transmit audio signals to each of the one or more speakers as a function of the slot setting.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A PERSONALIZED AUDIO SYSTEM

Systems and methods are provided for personalized three-dimensional audio. In one embodiment, a sound calibration system comprises a headrest having a first speaker, a second speaker, and one or more sensors, the headrest configured to engage a head of a user, and a controller with computer readable instructions stored on non-transitory memory. The instructions, when executed, cause the controller to create customized spatial audio by utilizing a head-related impulse response (HRIR) that is modified based on an input audio signal, the location of the audio source and receiver, and the head position of the user. The resulting audio output is generated by applying the HRIR and interaural crosstalk cancellation filters to frequencies above a threshold frequency.
