Method and apparatus for implementing network radio frequency coverage mapping

A system and method are provided for producing radio-frequency (RF) coverage maps for networks of ground stations. The coverage maps are produced from ground station log files that are generated for a particular network of RF radio stations, including an ARINC VHF Data Link Mode 2 (VDLM2) Network. A coverage map regarding interactive communications between aircraft and various ground stations at a particular location therefrom is generated based on actual available operating data including geographic locating of an aircraft, which may be according to Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system data or other aircraft geolocating data, and Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) measurements for the data exchange with the aircraft. Collected and/or recovered actual available operating data may be massaged to determine an actual coverage map, which may map the RSSI measurements to associated aircraft geographic locations to provide indications of relative signal strengths at various points around the particular location.

Method for interference-robust transmitter placement in wireless mesh networks

The disclosure provides a computer-implemented system for establishing a wireless mesh network resistant to degradation induced by deliberate jamming or other electromagnetic interference emanating from point sources within an operating area. The computer-implemented system provides WMN AP locations that minimize disruptions to client coverage caused by jammers, subject to constraints on network service. The computer-implemented system considers jammers placed by an intelligent adversary and identifies the AP locations λ through quantification of an objective function of the general form Z(λ,χ)=Z.sub.coverage(λ,χ)−w Z.sub.flow(λ,χ), where Z.sub.coverage(λ,χ) reflects resulting coverage shortfall, Z.sub.flow(λ,χ) reflects traffic flow within the WMN, and w is a scalar reflecting the relative weight of the two terms. The final set of AP locations λ identifies the locations of APs to create a WMN that is the most robust to the worst possible jamming attack. Such an attack could represent the actions of a rational human opponent, or the worst-case positioning of unintentional interference sources such as civilian radios, other RF devices, or high-voltage electrical devices.

An aspect of the present disclosure relates to an autonomous moving machine which may maintain the self-location with high reliability. Operations of the moving machine include acquiring sensor information about the self-location, estimating the self-location based on the sensor information, calculating the reliability of the estimated self-location, recording the reliability in association with the estimated self-location. When the reliability satisfies a given condition, the operations include moving the moving machine to a position at which the reliability is high, based on the reliability.

A recursive algorithm may be applied to group cells in a service network into a small number of clusters. For each of the clusters, different regression algorithms may be evaluated, and a regression algorithm generating a smallest error is selected. A total error for the clusters may be identified based on the errors from the selected regression algorithms and from degrees of separation associated with the cluster. If the total error is greater than a threshold value, the cells may be grouped into a larger number of clusters and the new clusters may be re-evaluated. A key performance indicator (KPI) may be estimated for a cell based on a regression algorithm selected for the cluster associated with the cell. A resources may be allocated to the cell based on the KPI value.
