The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services (e.g., a smart home, a smart building, a smart city, a smart car or connected car, healthcare, digital education, retail business, security and safety-related service, etc.), based on a 5G communication technology and an IoT-related technology. A method for a user equipment in a first communication system according to the present invention comprises steps in which a user equipment in an inactive state: transmits a paging area update request message; checks whether or not a timer associated with a paging area update has expired; and transitions into an idle state if a response message for the paging area update request message has not been received until the timer has expired.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PAGING PROCEDURES IN NEW RADIO (NR)

Methods and apparatuses are described herein for paging procedures in wireless systems. For example, a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) may monitor one or more physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) for paging resources associated with a first subset of synchronization signal (SS) blocks that corresponds to a first beam tracking area (BTA). On a condition that at least one measurement of at least one beam associated with the first subset of SS blocks is less than a predetermined threshold, the WTRU may transmit, to a base station (BS), a signal indicating a second BTA that is associated with a second subset of SS blocks. The signal includes a physical random access channel (PRACH) resource associated with a second group of SS blocks that corresponds to the second BTA.

User equipment paging method and MME

A user equipment paging method and a mobility management entity (MME) in order to improve user equipment paging efficiency, where the method includes determining, by the MME before paging user equipment in an idle state, a base station last accessed by the user equipment, determining, by the MME, that the base station last accessed by the user equipment is in a non-overload state, and sending, by the MME, a paging message including an identifier of the user equipment to the base station last accessed by the user equipment.

A base station used in a mobile communication system, includes: a controller configured to cause a user equipment to transition to a specific state in which a paging area is configured in the user equipment from the base station, perform a paging for the user equipment by the base station with another base station that are correspond to the paging area, when the base station receives a non-access stratum signaling from a core network to the user equipment, and transmit a failure notification from the base station to the core network in response to failing to the paging. The failure notification comprises an identifier for identifying the user equipment, and information indicating a cause of failure of the paging.

Telecommunications apparatus and methods for paging mobile terminals in a wireless communication system

A method of paging in a wireless telecommunications system. A core network element selects a base station from plural base stations including a tracking area to have primary responsibility for paging a terminal device and conveys an indication of the terminal device to the selected base station. Each base station maintains a paging database identifying one or more terminal devices for which it has a responsibility for paging. When a terminal device is to be paged, the core network element transmits a paging request to the plural base stations including the tracking area. The respective base stations then determine whether to onward transmit a paging message for the terminal device based on a comparison between an identifier for the terminal device being paged with entries in their paging database, and if the comparison indicates it has responsibility for paging the terminal device, it will transmit a paging message accordingly.

ENERGY SAVING IN TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM

In some examples, user equipment comprises a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, the memory configured to store program code executable by the processor, the program code comprising one or more instructions, whereby to cause the user equipment to measure a parameter associated with a radio coverage of a network node for the user equipment, on the basis of the value of the parameter, transmit information to the network node representing a reception status of a wake-up receiver of the user equipment, and on the basis of the reception status of the wake-up receiver of the user equipment monitor a selected paging signal from one of multiple paging signals transmitted by the network node.

Coordination of simultaneous multi-RAT camping

The present invention relates to the coordination of simultaneous multi-RAT camping in a wireless communication network that provides radio access for a terminal device via at least a first and second wireless radio access operating with different radio access technologies. The improved multi-RAT camping is achieved by transmitting, by a network node, an indication regarding a set of camping areas, CAs, including a first set of camping areas being associated with the first RAT and a second set of camping areas being associated with the second RAT; performing, by the terminal device, camping in a coverage area defined based on the set of CAs; and updating, by the terminal device, the communication network with a geographic location of the terminal device a) when the terminal device enters a new coverage area being different from the coverage area defined by both the first and second set of CAs as a first mechanism, or b) when the terminal device enters a new coverage area being different from the coverage area defined by one of the first and second set of CAs as a second mechanism.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for configuring UE information. The method may include: after UE is controlled to switch from an RRC connected state to an RRC inactive state, a radio notification area is determined, where the radio notification area indicates a set of one or more cells and the UE in the RRC inactive state moving among the cells in the radio notification area does not cause a cell handover; and UE information of the UE is sent to all base stations within the radio notification area. The UE information of the UE in the RRC inactive state is synchronously configured to other base stations within the radio notification area, such that the base stations may accurately and efficiently determine the RRC state of the UE, thereby improving the transmission efficiency between the base station and the UE.
