A communication method and apparatus. The method includes: a first access network device receives a retrieve UE context request message from a second access network device and sends first information to a positioning management network element. The first information indicates at least one of the following: an area change, update of a sounding reference signal (SRS) configuration, or update of an area. The area is an area in which the SRS configuration configured by the first access network device for a terminal is valid. One area includes at least one cell. That the first information indicates the area change is that the first information includes at least one of the following: the area change, moving out of the area, a cell change, moving out of a cell, an area identity, or a cell identity.

Embodiments of the present invention, relating to the communications field, disclose a paging optimization method, apparatus, and system, so as to ensure that a terminal normally receives a paging message sent by a system. A specific solution carried by a core network node comprising determining channel loss information of a terminal according to an international mobile subscriber identity IMSI or a temporary mobile subscriber identity S-TMSI of the terminal; and sending a first paging message that carries the channel loss information to an access network node, wherein the first paging message is used to page the terminal. The present invention is used in a paging process.

Embodiments of the present invention, relating to the communications field, disclose a paging optimization method, apparatus, and system, so as to ensure that a terminal normally receives a paging message sent by a system. A specific solution carried by a core network node comprising determining channel loss information of a terminal according to an international mobile subscriber identity IMSI or a temporary mobile subscriber identity S-TMSI of the terminal; and sending a first paging message that carries the channel loss information to an access network node, wherein the first paging message is used to page the terminal. The present invention is used in a paging process.

A method for managing an area of a terminal in a wireless communication system and an apparatus therefor are disclosed. Specifically, a method for performing, by a terminal, location area update in a wireless communication system may comprise the steps of: transmitting, to a network node, a first request message including an additional cell list comprising one or more neighboring cells of a serving cell of the terminal; receiving, from the network node, a first accept message including information indicating acceptance of the use of the additional cell list; and, when a changed serving cell of the terminal belongs to a tracking area configured to the terminal and does not belong to the additional cell list, performing a cell-based area update procedure.

The method comprises obtaining a paging area for transmitting paging data to the wireless device, the paging area comprising multiple transmission points. The method further comprises selecting a subset of the multiple transmission points, based on a selection criterion, and initiating transmission of a paging transmission in the paging area. The paging transmission comprises first data and second data targeting the wireless device when transmitted from the transmission points of the selected subset of the multiple transmission points. The first data comprises the paging data and the second data comprises information not comprised in the first data. Moreover, the paging transmission comprises only the first data when transmitted from other transmission points of the paging area.

The disclosure relates to methods, devices, and computer programs in mobile communications. More specifically, the disclosure relates to a method, performed in a network node, for transmitting data to a wireless device. A network node in a cellular communications network allocates a mobility area to a user equipment device, such that the user equipment device is not required to inform the network of its location while it remains in the mobility area. The mobility area comprises a plurality of tracking areas, and each tracking area has a respective identifier comprising a plurality of bits. The network node provides information to the user equipment device identifying the plurality of tracking areas forming the mobility area allocated to the user equipment device, wherein said information identifying the plurality of tracking areas forming the mobility area comprises fewer bits of information than the total number of bits in the respective identifiers of the plurality of tracking areas.

A network node in a cellular communications network allocates a mobility area to a user equipment device, such that the user equipment device is not required to inform the network of its location while it remains in the mobility area. The mobility area comprises a plurality of tracking areas, and each tracking area has a respective identifier comprising a plurality of bits. The network node provides information to the user equipment device identifying the plurality of tracking areas forming the mobility area allocated to the user equipment device, wherein said information identifying the plurality of tracking areas forming the mobility area comprises fewer bits of information than the total number of bits in the respective identifiers of the plurality of tracking areas.

A network out-of-synchronization state processing method and apparatus, and a network access method and apparatus are provided. The method includes: if a first network device does not receive, in a first time length after the first network device determines that a terminal is in a network out-of-synchronization state, a measurement message reported by a second network device in a signal coverage area of the first network device, instructing at least one second network device in the signal coverage area of the first network device to send paging signaling to the terminal; and setting a network status of the terminal to a detached state if the first network device determines that in a second time length, no second network device in the signal coverage area of the first network device receives a paging response sent by the terminal, and that the terminal is still in the network out-of-synchronization state.
