Indicating RAN notification area update (RNAU) in RRC_INACTIVE state
Embodiments include methods performed by a radio access network (RAN) node of a wireless communication system. Such methods include receiving, from a wireless device via a cell, a request to resume an RRC connected state with the wireless communication network. The request includes a cause indicator that indicates mobility signaling as a cause for resuming the RRC connected state. Such methods include, based on the cause indicator, requesting an access and mobility management function (AMF) of the wireless communication system to perform a tracking area update (TAU) for the wireless device. Such methods include receiving from the AMF an indication that the TAU for the wireless device is complete and in response to the received indication, initiating an access-stratum (AS) procedure for the wireless device. Other embodiments include complementary methods for AMFs as well as RAN node and AMFs configured to perform such methods.

Method and apparatus for paging carrier selection
This patent document describes, among other things, techniques, and apparatuses for providing paging carrier selection based on a coverage enhancement level (CEL) and associated carrier specific configuration. In one aspect, a method of wireless communication is disclosed. The method includes receiving, by a wireless device, from a first network node, a paging radio resource specific paging configuration, selecting, by the wireless device, a paging radio resource based on a paging radio resource specific paging configuration, wherein the selecting further uses a wireless device specific paging configuration in case that the wireless device is configured with the wireless device specific paging configuration, and performing a further communication operation based on the paging radio resource that is selected by the wireless device.

INDICATING TRACKING AREA UPDATE (TAU) WHILE IN RRC INACTIVE STATE
Embodiments include methods performed by an access network node configured to operate in a wireless communication system. Such methods include receiving, from a wireless device via a cell, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) Resume Request message that includes a cause indicator indicating mobility signaling as a cause for the wireless device resuming an RRC Connected state. Such methods include retrieving a context for the wireless device. The context includes a tracking area identifier (TAI) list for the wireless device. Such methods include determining whether a tracking area code (TAC) of the cell is represented in the TAI list and when it is determined that the TAC is not represented in the TAI list, responding to the RRC Resume Request message with an RRC Resume message. Other embodiments include complementary methods for a wireless device as well as access network nodes and wireless devices configured to perform such methods.

Reduction in paging traffic in GNB using near real-time ran intelligent controller XAPP
An Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) communication system includes a GNB Central Unit Control Plane (GNB-CUCP) to establish a connection with a Near-RT RIC via an E2 interface; a User Equipment (UE); a plurality of cells in a Tracking Area (TA) of the GNB-CUCP; and an O-RAN Near-Real Time (Near-RT) RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) to host an xApp and initiate a subscription procedure with the UE. The GNB-CUCP sends cell location information of the UE to the Near-RT RIC upon a UE context release procedure, the Near-RT RIC creates and maintains a record of the cell location information received from the GNB-CUCP via the xApp, and the GNB-CUCP pages the UE in a subset of cells from the plurality of cells in the TA, the subset of cells corresponding to the record of cell location information created and maintained by via the xApp.
