An apparatus includes a first and second driving circuits that energize a first and third heat generating blocks; a first and second temperature detection members that detect each temperature of the first and third heat generating blocks; a control portion that controls the first and second driving circuits according to at least one of the temperatures detected by the first and second temperature detection members; and a connection switching portion that selectively connects any one of the first and second driving circuits to a second heat generating block according to a switching instruction from the control portion. The control portion controls energization of the second heat generating block together with a heat generating block which is energized by the driving circuit connected to the second heat generating block.

Methods and systems for electrically heating and cooling rollers is described. A system may include one or more rollers comprising one or more electrical heating elements and one or more air channels. The one or more electrical heating elements may integrated to a power source and control circuit through an electrical contact on at least one end of the roller. The control circuit may additionally receive input from one or more temperature sensors.

A heated roll with a circular cylindrical casing tube 1 made from thermally conductive metal, which is closed at its end faces with caps 2, 3. One or more electric heating mats 8 are arranged inside the casing tube 1. By at least one connection pin 5, which is arranged at one cap 2, connection cables 11 are guided for supplying the heating mats 8 with electric power. Annular brushing bodies 7 are fastened at the connection pin 5 and serve for the electric contacting of the connection cables 11. A tensioning device 9, 14, 15 is arranged inside the casing tube 1, which presses the heating mats 8 permanently against the interior surface of the casing tube 1.

An object is to provide a self-heat-generating fixing roller that has a simple structure and good durability and that can be easily produced. A self-heat-generating fixing roller according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a columnar core bar, a heat-insulating layer stacked on an outer circumferential side of the core bar, a heat-generating layer stacked on an outer circumferential side of the heat-insulating layer and heated by supplying electricity, and a mold-releasing layer stacked on an outer circumferential side of the heat-generating layer. The heat-insulating layer preferably contains a matrix containing a synthetic resin or rubber as a main component, and a plurality of pores contained in the matrix. The heat-generating layer preferably contains a matrix containing a synthetic resin or rubber as a main component, and a plurality of electrically conductive fillers contained in the matrix.
