Method of purging gas bubbles in an extracorporeal blood circuit
The invention relates to a method of purging gas bubbles from at least one target zone of an extracorporeal blood circuit, preferably of an extracorporeal blood circuit of a dialysis machine, with a flushing liquid, wherein the flow rate and/or the pressure of the flushing liquid in the extracorporeal blood circuit is/are inconstant at least at times during the flushing process; and/or wherein the flow rate of the flushing liquid in the extracorporeal blood circuit lies above a range of possible flow rates at least at times during the flushing process, which range is used during the treatment for the blood. The invention furthermore relates to an extracorporeal blood treatment unit having an extracorporeal blood circuit, a pump and a control unit, with the control unit being configured to carry out a flushing process in accordance with the invention. The invention furthermore relates to an extracorporeal blood treatment unit having an extracorporeal blood circuit, a pump and a control unit, with the control unit being configured such that the conveying speed for blood is slowly increased after a standstill of the pump or after an operation of the pump at throttled speed.
Method of determining a system compressibility value of a medical membrane pump drive
A method of determining a system compressibility value of a medical membrane pump drive is provided which includes moving to a first and second pressure level and detecting a first and second operating parameter value of the membrane pump drive. The system compressibility value is determined on the basis of the detected operating parameter values and the membrane of the membrane pump drive is supported at a rigid surface during the determination of the system compressibility value.
Apparatus for Making Extracorporeal Blood Circulation Available
The present invention relates to an apparatus or making extracorporeal blood circulation available, in particular a heart-lung machine, comprising a venous connection and an arterial connection, between which a blood reservoir, a blood pump and a bubble detector for the detection of air bubbles are provided, with, downstream of the bubble detector, an arterial line leading to the arterial connection via an arterial clamp and a bypass leading via a bypass clamp back into the blood reservoir which is connected to a pump extracting air from the blood reservoir. In addition, the present invention relates to a method of operating such an apparatus.

The present specification describes systems and methods for detecting an occlusion in a tubing carrying a patient's blood through a manifold and into a dialyzer in a dialysis system. A controller measures pressures value of the blood at a predetermined point after exiting the manifold and before entering the dialyzer, calculates a historical running average, calculates a weighted sum of the most recent pressure values, and determines whether to trigger an occlusion alarm based on a function of the historical running average and the weighted sum of the most recent pressure values.
EXTRACORPOREAL PLASMA SEPARATION, ADSORPTION, AND DELIVERY SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A blood processing system includes a collection line for carrying blood, a blood separation device for separating the blood into first and second fractions, a plasma delivery line for delivering the first blood fraction to an adsorption device, and a peristaltic pump. The adsorption device adsorbs plasma of the first blood fraction. Portions of the collection and plasma delivery lines are positioned in a channel of the peristaltic pump, and the peristaltic pump causes the blood to flow through the collection line at a first flow rate and causes the first blood fraction to flow through the plasma delivery line at a second flow rate that is less than the first flow rate. In some implementations, the collection and plasma delivery lines are tubes having different internal diameters facilitating such differential flow rates. In some implementations, the peristaltic pump is the only pump in the blood processing system.
