A portable medical apparatus for cardiopulmonary aid to patients includes a transportable machine body that integrates an heater/cooler unit and an extracorporeal circuit for circulating the blood of a patient. The extracorporeal circuit includes a line for drawing venous blood from the patient, a line for returning arterial blood to the patient, a pumping unit for pumping blood along the extracorporeal circuit, a heat exchanger for thermoregulating blood in the extracorporeal circuit, and an oxygenator unit for blood oxygenation.

An extracorporeal blood circulator includes a control unit and a speed manipulation section. A rotation display section displays a lower limit rotation setting value of a pump motor in accordance with a command of the control unit. The lower limit rotation speed setting value is a minimum rotation speed for preventing backflow of blood inside a circulation circuit A manually adjusted speed setting request from the manipulation section controls the pump speed, except that the controller enforces the lower limit speed setting unless receiving confirmation from a manipulator.

Systems and methods for extracorporeal support

The example systems, apparatus and methods use a local perfusion extracorporeal circuit (LPEC) for perfusing a local target region of a body, with a systemic perfusion extracorporeal circuit (SPEC) coupled to the core region of the vasculature using a peripheral placed loop to the body, and a control procedure to cause the local target region of the body to be at a specified pattern of temperature values that are different than the temperature of the core of the body.

An assembly for an extracorporeal life support system with a suction line that features a venous cannula and a pressure line that features an arterial cannula furthermore includes a pump that is arranged between the suction line and the pressure line. This assembly has a discharge line with a discharge cannula, wherein the discharge cannula is longer than the arterial cannula, and wherein the discharge line is connected to the suction line or the pressure line.

Cardiopulmonary apparatus and methods for use during PCI and CABG

Apparatus and methods for providing extracorporeal blood circulation and oxygenation control include multi-stage deairing of blood to provide automated cardiopulmonary replacement to sustain patient life during a medical procedure such as cardiopulonary bypass graft surgery, keyhole cardiopulmonary bypass graft surgery, percutaneous angioplasty, percutaneous stent placement, and percutaneous atherectomy.

An extracorporeal blood circulation system reduces the risk of generation of air bubbles entering the circulation circuit associated with placement of a pressure sensor that detects a patient's blood pressure at a blood removal line. Instead of directly measuring pressure at the blood removal line where suction exists, an intermediate part pressure sensor detects pressure between a centrifugal pump and an oxygenator. A controller identifies a discharge pressure specific to the centrifugal pump based on a rotation speed of the pump and a blood flow rate. The discharge pressure and the intermediate pressure values are combined to estimate the pressure at the blood removal line.

An alarm device for a medical instrument includes a first alarm-signal sound output device which outputs a first alarm signal, an output determination unit which determines whether the first alarm-signal output device is outputting the first alarm signal during the specific alarm condition, and an alarm-signal-output stop unit 39 for manually clearing outputting of the alarm signal. The alarm device is configured so that when the output determination unit determines that the first alarm-signal output device has not output the alarm signal, a second alarm-signal output device outputs a second audible alarm signal distinctive from the first audible alarm signal. The alarm device is configured so that when the stop unit does not manually clear a selected alarm signal within a predetermined time after beginning output of the alarm signal, then an audible output characteristic of the alarm signal is changed.

An oxygen supply unit for use with a blood oxygenator comprises an oxygen concentrator and a carbon dioxide scrubber. In an on-line operational mode, oxygen-rich gas from the oxygen concentrator is predominantly supplied to the blood oxygenator with a reduced flow of recycled gas from the concentrator. In an off-line operational mode where the oxygen supply unit is being powered by battery only, a larger flow of recycled gas from the blood oxygenator is passed through the carbon dioxide scrubber and combined with a lesser amount of oxygen-rich gas from the oxygen concentrator. The oxygen supply unit may be used in combination with a blood pump and oxygenator to provide ambulatory blood oxygenation to patients with compromised lung function.

An extracorporeal blood pump assembly includes a blood pump and an extracorporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO). The blood pump includes a pump housing, a rotor, and a flow converter positioned downstream from the rotor to convert non-axial flow from the rotor to axial flow. The pump housing defines an inlet and an outlet. The ECMO includes a membrane housing and an oxygenator membrane disposed within the membrane housing. The membrane housing is removably connected to the pump housing at one of the pump housing inlet and the pump housing outlet.

CONTROL OR REGULATING DEVICE

The invention concerns a control or regulating device with a control or regulating unit, which both controls or regulates a volumetric blood flow flowing through a blood pump as well as a volumetric flow of a gas able to flow through a gas exchange unit.
